1.4 TSI ACT or 1.8 TSI?

Very please with my 1.4 TSI ACT engine as well. Driven just under 7000 miles (a little above 11 000km) and engine feels very nice. Fuel economy is very good and when required, the engine can certainly pull from very low down. I also have two long roadtrips planned across Europe this summer:
One around 5000km to Le Mans through Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
And the second around 3000km in Norway through Sweden.

So by August the engine will have a proper run-in period and should be singing

1.8 has multilink suspension. I went for 1.4 act and just love it. Consumption, expenses and performance perfectly mixed.

I picked up my 1.4 EcoTsi Ibiza yesterday - all I'll say is that the Ibiza which weighs only 100kg less than the Leon is like a rocketship!

Yes - it is fantastic. Smooth, powerful and pulls from low down in the rev range. Love it.

1.8 has multi link rear suspension and enormous brakes.

I just upgraded my 2015 1.4 ACT to a Cupra. I really miss my old car. I have no experience of the 1.8, but as a mix, performence vs economy, I think the 1,4 is a tough one to beat.

Having moved from a 1.2TSI 105 Ibiza FR to a 1.4 ECOTSI 150 Leon Fr, the difference in drive is amazing. I mean that little 1.2 was no slouch but the 150 just seems to want to keep on going. There's a rather large hill on my daily commute that the 1.2 used to struggle on (even in lower gears) but the Leon just cracks on up it. Getting about 49 to 52 mpg at the moment which is slightly better than the Ibiza. Not sure I'm really missing out on the extra 30PS or the bigger breaks and multi link rear.

I recently took delivery of my 2016 Ibiza FR 1.4 150 - my mpg is not as good as yours at around 44MPG. Might be because I am enjoying myself too much with the engine - it really is a great unit. Pulls incredibly well in the Ibiza.

I still haven't really made up my mind whether to have another 1.8 or go for the 1.4 ACT when I change my car sometime later this year. Despite what some people here have said I'm not going to go for the Cupra. I have almost definitely decided to have a DSG version next time.

My gut feeling is to have another 1.8 because I love the one I currently have, but the more I read I do wonder whether I will really notice that much difference if I changed to the 1.4 ACT.
I don't do more than about 10,000 miles a year and I don't do a large amount of motorway driving. Most of my driving is on fairly winding country roads and lanes and I've found the 1.8 great for this. I do wonder whether I would notice not having the better brakes and suspension if I had a 1.4. I found the 1.8 very heavy on fuel when I first had it but these last few months it seems to be improving as I have done more mileage. I'm now averaging about 42 mpg where initially it was mo more than 35 mpg. For the mileage and type of roads I mainly drive on perhaps the 1.4 would be the better choice.

I'm not in a great hurry to change and so plenty of time to keep researching the matter. However, I have noticed that people do seem to be waiting about 12 weeks to get their cars after ordering.

why not test drive the 1.4 on some of these roads and see if you notice the difference?
you may find the gearing a bit long, as they're trying to give a higher speed than perhaps the engine would like, but if you don't do much motorway work that may not be an issue...

Yes, I'm going to ask for a test drive in the 1.4 when it gets nearer the time. My dealer will be quite helpful as it will be the 4th Leon I've had from them and I get on well with them.
