1.4 TSI performance mods

Hi all!
i have a 1 month old candy white 1.4 tsi, It runs perfectly and i love the car. I am now looking at vastly increasing the performance of the car. I have been told that remaps are the best to start with, although i'm not entirely sure on which remap to go with for maximum performance increase. I have also thought about AEM turbo timers and trying to boost the turbo's output. According to discussions i have read it is very possible to add a supercharger onto the engine due to the engine being almost identicle to VW Golf GT's which run turbos/superchargers. If anyone can give me advice on which are the best mods to go with and also is it possible to hit 200BHP on a 1.4 tsi and keep decent MPG. thanks for any and all replies.

trading it in for a FR would be your best bet. Cant see adding a supercharger to it and getting it to work in harmoney with the turbo will be cheap or easy. Would be cheaper to just stick on a bigger turbo, but once you have done and paid for all of that you could have easily bought a FR.

You have to bare in mind insurance costs as well.

insurance costs at the moment aren't a problem and due to me having only just turned 18, the FR is not a possibility due to in my age making insurance ridiculous. The TSI performance wise is more than enough at the moment, so i have no intention on paying crazy money to insure an FR which isn't amazingly quicker.

If you cannot insure a FR I think you will struggle to insure a highly modified 1.4 tsi.

after insurance costs and ridicoulous costs of upgrading a turbo or super charger (4-6K after labour?) its not worth it really.
I told this to someone else on here, but he didnt want to know.

1.4 tsi weighs roughly 130kg. 2.0 tsi 211 152kg iirc.

Audis new 2.5 TSI as in the TT-RS weighs 184kg.

My opinion, stick with what you have.
You say at 18 the insurance costs for mods are not a problem but they are for an fr
when you say an fr is not amazingly quicker, roughly 2.5 seconds to 60 is a big difference and will not be got cheaply as the engine is designed for low co2 1st and performance 2nd.

Alright just to answer LB's Questions...There isn't really a good remap
out for the car just yet because the ECU is still new and been developed
(MED17) mines just a generic one but it still produces good power but not
the best and I will be having something different very soon, I will keep you
noted on that. I don't think a Turbo timer is needed for the car we don't have
big enough turbos to worry about cooling it or lag whatever...I yet to see
evidence of supercharge mod for the engine althought it be instresting to see
only time will tell I guess but the other option would be a bigger turbo upgrade

Just do basic mods for now until the bigger company developes new things for it
am sure it will happen but not right now...You can go for customer stainless
steel exhaust system which will go well with the car I won't suggest cutting
cat because it has OS senors on the cat I think there is 3 of them...as soon
as you remove the cat your light is going to go on so best to leave it for now
as far as am aware there is no sports cat for it either (yes I have been searching)
Air filters mine was made by forge but you can get custom ones or prehaps BMC
"CARBON DYNAMIC AIRBOX" the standard one is good enough but if you want the
sound of dark vader breathing be my guess its all good. I don't have any more
on modding to be honest nothing major but once I get more I will let you know

Achieving 200bhp for the car is apparently possible and thats the stage am heading
i mean its not as awesome as a GT2871R turbo pushing 380hp but its still pretty
good for front wheel drive car. Its all about personal taste if you want the power
go for it no need for others to stop you if you need help just ask like I did
some guys here are bit big headed with their big boy cars but heh am sure they
all mean well. Am 24 with 3 yr ncb...quoted for 600-700 from green insurance
not bad heh, but oh yes forgot you didn't ask about insurance so i better stay to the

Hope its not too much to read dude. but yea do what you want aslong as your
pleased don't let others discourage I find it rather rude if anything.
note: this is not aim at anyone but as its a seat forum would be polite to help
out others than suggesting another car although realistically its prob the better
option.

I never mean to discourage anyone, just make them aware of the costs involved before they get any suprises or ideas about not telling the insurance company which is a pet hate of mine..

Being such a new engine, there wont be much around for it. I was in a similar situation, I actually got some free parts or discounts on some things as my car was the test mule. May be a good idea to ask around companies to see what they have, and if not, ask them if they want to develop something using your car.
