Looking at buying the Cupra MK5 1.4TSi and after reading all night about misfiring etc it's got me wondering....is this just when people have mapped them? or just in general? any common problems with this engine? cos i thought they were supposed to be top like.

I have no interest in mapping it once i get it, 180BHP is plenty quick.

cheers

happens to both mapped and non mapped cars..however if your vehicle does have underlying problems...a map will make it worse.. wont cause problems necessarily but speed up existing problems

I've had my 61 plate since August and put 5k on it with no issues, a lot of the issues seem to be confined to the older models...

In those 5k miles it has probably used around 2L of oil.

Its hit and miss to be fair, there is loads of 1.4tsi engines with no problems and some are awful, ive had not a bit of oil gone in just shy of 3k, but that could change, there has been some updates in terms of parts, if you do get one make sure it has warranty.

I was lookin at them round a 2010 but now reading what I've read I think tht I'd want a new one just to make sure it had plenty of warranty! Guess you can always buy a pup tho no matter what make or model, pot luck I guess

Mines done 11k from almost new with me, mapped for half that. Uses oil but well within limits. Mines an 11 plate, no updated spark plugs or anything. Just seat plugs.

I just went out and washed my Boc then decided to check the oil after it... was totally dry!!! Only had a tiny wet dab of oil at the bottom! Luckily I always keep backup oil in my boot, but this is insane, I checked it 2 days ago and it was sitting at 3/4 of the way up the measuring part of the dipstick.

More than worried about this car now.

The 2012 engine is vastly different than I have from 09. Pistons/rings/injectors/spark plugs/magnetic superchager clutch/throttle actuator/pcv system/oil seperator/oil cooler.....there are more, cant think off the top of my head. I would by one now with confidence as the engine hasnt been dropped, it going ito more cars than ever.

Mine did this last week also. Its related to the weather. We always seem to get more problems around this time of year regarding oil consumption + misfiring. Weird

I'm getting the same problem at the moment. I also have had the dreaded 'emissions' light pop up. Changed the plugs to Ngk's, and not has the problem since. It is spoiling the whole experience of owning the car to be honest, as I don't want to boot it as I fear the worst from the 'fragile' engine. I dunno whether so sell up or not, cos I love the car :/ stuck...

make sure you have the new plugs by seat +software, should do the trick unless your consuming oil too then theres a different story alltogether. If your mapped, make sure you have the bkr7eix

Always thought engines work better with colder air !

Bo engines don't work better cold try just run richer to compensate for the tempture will there warm the engine has less lubrication when cold the engine runs best at full running temp in cold foggy dam weather ;)
