wot are the pros and cons of both, and what would people have and for what reasons..

Having driven a 1.6 it was great down country roads but felt it was lacking on A-Roads/M-Ways. Was a hoot though as one I drove was early non drive by wire so could get some awesome downshift blips and left foot braking :D

However the 1.9 TDI is a great engine and has bags of torque. What sort of driving do you do?

up and down to uni most days is only bout 20mins on m/way. so they are pretty even then. just get the ryt one at the ryt price

i would go with TDI, it will feel perkier as it has alot more torque than the petrol. and give slightly better mpg. But honestly it wont be huge as a short 20 min drive wont be enough for it to give its best, tdis are best of longer distances.

I'd go for the TDi too. 1.6 may out drag it, but the TDi is a much more flexible engine as it has much more torque. It will feel quicker too, when given a good prod on the loud pedal.

Plus a simple remap will improve power and torque and make it a clear winner in all areas :)
