1.6 CORDOBA VARIO SE ESTATE losing power/cutting out - advice please!

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of buying a 1998 CORDOBA VARIO SE ESTATE as a runabout, but the seller says that there's a problem with the car losing power - to quote the exact words:
"WHEN YOU DRIVE THIS CAR SOMETIMES ITS LIKE SOMEONE IS PULLING THE COIL LEAD OFF AND PUTTING IT BACK ON AND SO ON. HENCE IT LOSES POWER SOMETIMES AND PICKS ITSELF UP"
Seller states the car has service history.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? If you do, any idea of cost to fix?

New HT Leads, Dizzy cap, plugs & a rotor arm

change of £30 & about 15 mins work including the tea

Not too bad at all then - but any likelyhood it's a fuel issue, filter perhaps?

unlikely, but add £4 and 20 mins

TBH, it sounds very much like the issue my Ibiza had recently, and as m0rk said, a new set of HT's and a Rotor arm and all was well again (up untill now , leastwise )

fuel filter gives these symptoms if blocked

MAF problems can also give this

if it feels like its being forced back for a few seconds then the power is back and it revs freely it may be a candidate

Shame it has no MAF though

maybe if you fit a maf.....
