I know it's notoriously hard to diagnose an issue based on someone's description of a noise... however! I picked up a 2012 (pre facelift) 1.6tdi ST a week or so ago. It's done about 70k and looks to have been serviced every 10k, generally will looked after. There's an invoice for a remap (no details on exactly what was done) and a second invoice for a replacement injector on bank 1 from July this year.
My issue is, the engine has a distinct 'tick' noise coming from the drivers side. It's really noticeable at higher revs and varies with them too. Is that typical for these engines? I know diesels are more chattery than petrol engines but I wasn't expecting this!
It's back with the dealer at the moment - no visual evidence of injector issues (which was what I suggested it may be, with one already being replaced) and they're doing a leak test tomorrow. I just want to know if I'm being paranoid or if it does sound like there is an issue.
