Looking at a 57 plate fr with 50k on the clock an wondering what to look out for engine wise

Know of all the other problem like rear brakes siezing an rear wishbone bushs and seat might not leaver forwards from my last tdi Ibiza that had every single problem possible !!

Just Dnt know these engines like I do the tdi so is there anything to look for

Thanks Tom

my 03 plate 20vt had quite a few problems kept goin into limp mode due to the air intake and the fuel problems needed a new fuel pump air filter and also the sensors in the throttle peddle went which meant the epc light came on and it would bearly move! but mine was on 100k so yours might be better!

Not really had many problems in mine, had to replace coil packs at 60k, I uprated the TIP, DV, intercooler hosing, also the oil breather piping...that's probably avoided some problems. Other than that I wouldn't say they have common problems.

Hideous feeling of deja vu here.

Engine wise the cars are pretty solid.

As said, coil packs are a fairly common point of failure, drop links, wishbone bushes, MAF.

Check if the cambelt has been replaced (due at 60k) water pump too is good to change at the same time.

Not really much goes wrong though if it's been looked after you should be fine.

Looks likes its been looked after, already had cupra bushs fitted but no cam belt yet so id have to get that done, need to work money out now haha

I have just bought one and had a few issues, I would say you need to factor in cambelt / water pump / g12 /G13 coolant.

Plugs should have been done at 40k.

Bushes seem to be common as said with drop links also not a major cost, my DV had gone although seem to drive ok and no EML it made a odd flutter noise again not that expensive £38.

I managed to get coil pcks done under warranty.

usaully the engine is solid just do usaul checks no blue smoke from exhaust no strange noises have a look to see if cambelt has ever been changed as they start to wine abit after so many miles

How did you get them done under warrenty ? What year is yours ? Cam belt is somet I need to pay for but Dnt mind will come with 12 months mot and tax but its not moved much in 12 months so will have to take it on a test drive to see if it smokes or not

I just went into the dealer, they took my reg and said yes it was part of the recall its a late 2006 on a 56 plate.

I phoned around allot of places and they came in from £325 -£425, for cambelt kit, water pump and coolant.

Might need to ask my stealers if I do get it, he's said when the Cam belt needed doin he would give me a good price haha and fit my 312 brakes for free, find out later of I can get finance on it

Surley the cambelt is over due if it hasnt been done before? You might also want to check on gearbox oil, some say that there was a recall on that also, i had already changed mine and it didnt show up at the stealers i took it too.
