1.8TSI Cupra 2016 Discussion

Hi,

I've been reading up on the upcoming 1.8TSI Cupra and I'm interested in buying one once my current lease is up (in around a years time), so I'll probably be buying one second hand from a dealer with low mileage and warranty etc.

Just wondering what others think of it from what's been said so far? When can I actually expect to see one on the road?

I would personally wait till the MK6 comes out.

Yeah fair comment, I never really gave that much thought but I'll need a car before July next year and I doubt they'll be out by then and even if they are I'm not looking to buy one for retail price or finance one. My other choice is a 1.8TSI mk3 Leon along with Clio 197 Cups MY10-13 and Ep3's (I know theyre not exactly comparible)

I would go 1.8tsi MK3 Leon then. Same engine but with the current 0% finance and a more grown up shell it feels like a good all round package. Plus the Leon is due a facelift this year or next.

I came from the Ibiza Cupra and would of gone 1.8tsi Leon but there wasnt much more in it to get a Cupra.

It's looking the most likely to be fair, I read a thread yesterday saying that people who dyno'd their 1.8tsi mk3's from stock were getting anywhere from 190-215bhp which is decent.

I wouldn't mind a Cupra either (obviously) but I doubt the insurance would be reasonable as I'll only be 21 come next year haha

In my country it was possible to order it since November 2015 and first 4 Cupras arrived here in March, I find it hard to believe that the first ones are not already driving around in the UK.

Yeah I know I've watched reviews and owners' videos on YouTube dated a few months ago but they're all German/Spanish, I haven't seen any for sale or anything. I just spec'd one on the website and it came up to 20k lmao, but yeah it doesn't give any details on when it'll be released here in the UK.

I'm probably just missing something really obvious here haha.

they widely available across the uk, they have been able to order since december for the uk, but the dealers couldnt spec much with them at the time.

I drove one about a month ago.

Initial impressions where very good, great noise from the car, comfortable with a better manual gearbox than my current 1.4 MK5 Ibiza FR, which has a fantastic gearbox so this was surprising.

The interior is still a huge let down, the infotainment display is soo small it begs the questions, why not just make it the same size as the polo's?

suspension was firm but comfortable also and the steering remains soooo light which isnt nice at all.

wait for the MK6 if your set on a cupra. Or buy a fiesta st

Having owned a Cupra for 6 weeks now I have to disagree with what you said about (almost everything) the interior, I'm really satisfied with it, Alcantara pack is a must to go with and the seats are excellent plus I've got the base model headunit with a 5" touch screen and even that works fine and has all the functionality that's important - CD, Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in. I just didn't find it sensible to pay almost £850 extra just for a bigger 6,5" screen and satnav, for satnav you can use a phone instead.
About a Fiesta .. well it's just fugly compared to an Ibiza, but that's a matter of taste of course.

My point about the touchscreen is just then, the fact they want the guts of a grand for 1 larger screen when your already paying 18k for the car, 18.9k for the black edition. the alcantara is nice dont get me wrong, but the plastic matt grey finish surrounding the headunit, and vents is just sheer ugly, should have went piano black like the old cupra, its just the small things for me. you can deny the lightness of the steering all you want but compared to other cars within the class, the cupra is tooooo easy to drive. It doesnt put a smile on your face and for almost 19K i want a smile every time i drive it, the fiesta provides that, but isnt as nice exterior wise as the cupra.

It does on mine .
You can use a Sport mode in the Cupra that makes the steering and suspension around 20% stiffer, did you try that?
According to different reviews the Fiesta is a class leader when it comes to driveability and feeling the road through the steering wheel, won't argue with that, haven't driven the Fiesta so can't compare them.

I just want to say also that this cupra is fastly superior to the older cupra in every way, just feel like with 18.9K for the car the shouldnt have cut so many corners with the small things.

When you consider that the Fiesta st2 can be bought for 2grand cheaper it baffles why they would cut corners.

My brother owned the cupra now owns the fiesta st2

the st2 is just the most fun to drive it is so engaging and relentless and just sheer bliss, although that is coming from a country side drive hooning it, i cant speak in terms of day to day practicality.. so there is that factor to consider also

Really? The pricing is really odd then because in my country the Fiesta costs around £2500 more and it's impossible to buy Xenons for it that the Cupra has already as standard, go figure. Actually Ford has one of the illest pricing systems of them all, they ask extra money for meaningless, but at the same time necessary things that some other manufacturers have already included in a base configuration.
The fact that you need to pay around a grand for a satnav in the Cupra is not a good example because all manufacturers ask around the same amount of £££ for a satnav, no one gives it to you for free.

Yes the xenons are nice but not 2grand on the list price kind of nice

What do you mean by that? In my country there is basically no price difference between the Fiesta or Cupra or any other car in the same class, a satnav with a 6,5-7" touch screen costs around a grand extra. Is it a different situation in the UK?

well did you not say that the cupra can come with a larger screen if you spec the Sat-Nav? 6.5" display with sat-nav vs 5" display without?

In the polo gti it is a 6.5" display if you spec sat nav or not.

so to get a larger headsup display even if you dont care about sat-nav within the cupra you need to pay a grand.

VW doesn't even sell a Polo GTI in Estonia, small village we have here you know .
Everything I said about a satnav with a bigger screen is correct. The Cupra comes with a 5" screen as standard and the Focus with a 4,2", you need to pay a grand to get a satnav with a bigger screen (6,5" and 6,8" respectively) in both of them.

Yea my point is the larger screen in the cupra should be standard.

Although as things are different here our opinions will vary. But I am glad you enjoy the cupra I was close to buying it but there where too many little things that put me off.
