1.9 TDI Boost issue!

Hello all, been a while since Ive been on here but I have just brought a 1.9 TDI Cool/S With the Cupra Body kit and wheels (Pics to follow once cleaned up!)

Ive noticed that if you you excelerate hard and hold it on boost it suddenly drops away (goes into limp home so to speak!) if you dump the clutch and turn the ignition off the on again whilst the car is still rolling it resets it and the boost comes back!

Anyone had this issue with the 1.9 TDi engine and is it an easy fix?

Thanks in advance

Luke:)

There good fun with all that low down torque and good mpgs, if you can get any fault codes that could help narrow your problem down too and also check the simpler stuff first like the boost pipes and vacuum lines. No point in throwing money at it for the sake of it.

Yeah I will have a check of the boost and vaccum lines first, thanks for the advice again! Much appreciated :)

Was the cause ever found for this? I've had an identical problem with my 01 Cool/s tdi that unfortunately progressed, whether the two are related or not I don't know. Basically, a few weeks back I tried to start the car, didn't even fire, then the heater light started flashing. I kept at it and eventually it started but was idling at about 500rpm, vibrating like mad and pressing the accelerator had no effect. When I came out the following morning, all was well, but the heater light was still flashing. I got the car put on diagnostic and it came up with "fuel codes" apparently like i'd been running it on red (which I hadn't).

After getting the codes cleared I drove the car with no problem for 4 days until this morning when, again, it wouldn't start. This time though it won't make any attempt to run for any length of time. It will fire and run for about 1.5 seconds (again at around 500rpm), and then die like it was getting starved for fuel. This time no flashing heater light.

I've checked the solenoid on the pump, which is fine and it's had regular fuel filters. Any input is appreciated.

Unfortunately I never saw the actual fault codes, it was my brother who took the car to get the diagnostic ran on it and he didn't pay any heed to what they were.

On a positive note, having kept the starter turning for about 30 seconds the car eventually started, again ran at 500rpm with pressing the accelerator having no effect, then after about 3/4 minutes the car was back to normal with the only clue being the heater light started flashing again. I'll have to go and get the fault codes read and take a note of them myself.

Where abouts are you? You could maybe find someone from here close by with a suitable scanner to help. I've got a few places for info when you do get them though. See the pic in this thread, post #4, pipe numbered 1, take that off and check the asv is fully open. It's like a butterfly valve just inside the metal part where that pipe goes on. If it is you could also try starting the car with that pipe off and see if there's any improvement. I think it's probably more of a fuel thing but you never know and it's free to try.

I'm in Northern Ireland. Cheers for the advice I'll give the asv a look. Agreed, it seems to be fuel related but it's worth a check until I get a chance to get the fault codes.
