Hi, last night my FR decided it didn't want to start anymore, read the fault code as no signal from the camshaft position sensor.... Can anyone tell me if I can get the old one off and new one on without removing the cambelt?

Had to have the same sensor replaced on the OH's 05 beetle cab 1.9tdi about 12 months ago and the garage took the belt off to replace it...

If I really have to remove the cambelt then fine, but having only just changed the head gasket I really would like to make things as easy as possible!

Would really appreciate any advice

I changed the cam sensor on mine (03 1.9 TDI sport 130) a couple of years ago, no need to take the belt off.
from memory just one stud to remove that locates the sensor, then a bit fiddly to get it routed through, but easy enuff.

Thanks @JR_130 that's exactly what I wanted to hear, only just changed the head gasket and couldn't remember if you could get the sensor off without removing the rear timing belt cover, didn't really want to remove it again if I could help it.

Fingers crossed it's just a duff sensor, I think I may have miss aligned it as I've ended up with two polished tabs on the cam sprocket so think it's been just brushing the sensor and has finished it off :( car was running perfectly until Monday afternoon when it decided it would no longer start and throws a no signal dtc fault code.
