Hi

I think I've got my first problem with my LC in over 3 years of owning it (other than the odd coil pack and self inflicted injury)

I had been using it earlier, parked up, and when I returned to it and started it up I was surprised to see the traction control OFF warning light came on without me hittting the button. Then it died after a minute or so at idle. I started it again and it died again after a bit. Had a flicker from the engine management light too.

I took the battery off for about an hour and put it back on, now the traction control off light is still on but it is not dying at idle and it drives absolutely perfectly.

Very weird.

I'd do a log but my new laptop has not got a serial port. DOH!

I don't know if this could have anything to do with it, just before parking up I'd hit a fat, dead, pheasent and it had banged hard down the centre under the car. I can't think of any sensors that would be central and to do with traction control.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'd offer to run down to plug my laptop in, but I'm not back until Monday....

But a scan will tell you what's up (maybe the rear ABS sensors got knocked by the phesant, as they enter the car more centrally (I think)

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to try and borrow a neighbours laptop tomorrow and run a scan.

I had a thought that it could be an ABS sensor. I'll visually inspect them tomorrow but a scan should prove it.

(I'll be soooooo annoyed if it is as I threw 2 broken hubs away this morning, both with ABS sensors on them, I tried to get them off but gave up)

Thanks

I had a problem where the traction controll light came on and stayed on during a sprint and it turned out to be an over reading on the maf sensor i just had it cleared with vag com and all was fine

Hi

I've done a check and got the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 06A 906 032 HN
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT 0002
Coding: 11510
Shop #: WSC 13109
VSSZZZ1MZ2R014565 SEZ7Z0A1232087
6 Faults Found:
18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30: Voltage too Low
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
17766 - Cylinder 2 Ignition Circuit: Open Circuit
17968 - Maximum Engine Speed Exceeded
16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 03: ABS Brakes
1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory

I can explain these:
18010 - Power Supply Terminal 30: Voltage too Low
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
17766 - Cylinder 2 Ignition Circuit: Open Circuit
17968 - Maximum Engine Speed Exceeded
(battery problems, coil pack failure on 2 and an overzealest change taking the revs almost off the clock!)

So I cleared them down and tryed again. Now I only get:

Address 01: Engine
16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too Low

Address 03: ABS Brakes
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory

So, can I assume that :

a) My MAF is on its way out (the cars driving great still)
b) I have an ABS sensor problem?

Thanks
D

check your wiring around the ABS pump, and MAF.

sounds more like a broken wire or two (comms problems to the ABS ECU)

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to strip things around the abs pump and maf tomorrow and see if I can see anything obviously broken.

Should I log the maf?

I've drawn a blank then. Stripped everything down, pushed every connector, inspected every wire I could. Checked underneath, both exhaust sensors. Nothing obviously wrong. Some connectors were quite wet, I assume this is normal.

ABS is working fine and the car is driving completely normally, boosting well and pulling hard. I now have engine management and traction control lights on though.

I'm going to book it into VagTech next week and see what they think.

a new MAF fixed the ABS module?
Ah, fair point, haven't actually checked the error codes yet (its a bit of a arse having to put my desktop PC in the car!!). But the traction control and engine management lights have gone out.

Do you not think that this was just a report from traction control that it could not get maf readings from the ECU to calc torque?
