hey everybody, i'm in need of some help - first post and i'm already desperate!

my 99 2.0 16v cordoba is overfueling like mad, only on startup? it's fine when warm but will not start 75% of the time.

now before you suggest stuff, please have a look at what i've done so far!

new coolant temp sensor fitted
new coolant temp sender fitted
new leads fitted
new dizzy cap /rotor arm fitted
new plugs fitted
ecu removed and checked by specialists - no problem (even tested underwater!)
injectors removed & tested - no problem
replacement coil pack fitted - made no difference
countless diagnostics performed - no codes stored
fuel pressure regulator tested - no problem

and the best one.....

one of the dogs dangliest diagnostic jobbies in derby connected to the car (when it won't start) - no problem!

it has 3 AA men stumped, my local garage stumped & the diagnostics place willing not to charge just tell them what the problem is!

there are several similar problems on here, but i seem to have tried everything but a crank sensor.....thats next but at 150 quid it's a last ditch effort before i hand it over to gk seat in derby along with my credit card and say

"fix it regardless of cost or scrap the fcuker"[:@]
last chance here folks, please help!:wtf:

ta!

cheers for the info & help guys, will be playing with the crank sensor later - it's gettin to the embarrassing stage now where i go to work in my girlfriends vitara (a phatboy of course...) and my 1979 vw campervan runs like a dream in comparison to my cordy!:D

oops. i should stick to typing....

yeah...erm. the wiring harness from my crank sensor just came away in my honest.....in about 4 parts. However, any clues on how to physically get the sensor out? my haynes book 'o lies tells me there a screw?

random! can't see owt, and looks like i'll have to take the oil filter off to get at it - also heard a rumour (could have been on here) that you have to take an engine mount off?

engine mount off yes....

remove allen bolt & wiggle.

watch for oil if you're not on the level

next!

thanks for the help m0rk about the cam sensor.

however, now the new sensor is in the car simply won't start - symptoms have been reversed! now, not overfueling but a lack of fuel it seems.

the engine turns and turns but will not start...

anybody got a clue?

if you disconnect the fuel line that goes into the the fuel rail and turn it over (get someone else to do that bit) which 'pumping' fuel into an old t-shirt

does any fuel come out?

might be a blockage...

if it does, check the connection under the inlet (at the front) to make sure it's connected correctly as that's what controls the injectors.

M

the fuel pump can be heard priming when you turn on the ignition........will try M0rk's idea tomorrow as my AA man mate is comin round to have a butchers....

thanks again guys...

had a similair problem on my 1.6 Cordoba, wouldn't start....

AA man came, and checked the fuel pump was priming, no problem.

He then disconnected the fuel line from the fuel rail, and primed the pump again.... fuel spurted everyway!

Reconnected it up, and it started fine..... he reckons it could have been an airlock or a blockage in the fuel line.

faulty! the aa have diagnosed the crank sensor as faulty. so that'll be comin off and being returned to euro car parts.....

....will keep any further progress posted!

just a quick update......

......i wouldn't recommend getting a crank sensor from euro car parts at the mo, i think they have a bad batch as i've just removed the second faulty sensor.

annoying as i still haven't solved the original problem and now the car won't start at all..........still, i can now remove and refit a crank sensor in under 30 minutes.....!

3rd time lucky! my 3rd crank sensor from euro car parts is a newer design and at last the doba (nearly) starts again! instead of overfueling, now it shounds like it's running on one or two cylinders. Gonna try cleaning the plugs up again and trying it - it has been sat for a fortnight and could just need a good run..if i can get it started!

anyone else got any good ideas?!?

ta

Sounds like the problems we had with my ex's 106.

I replaced 3 crank sensors (again, ECP crap!) along with the plugs and finally got it going. It sounded like it was running on 2 cylinders, so it got a new coil and leads, that didn't cure it so I gave up. I started it a month later and all was well!

Good luck getting it sorted!

well i'm back to square 1 now.....

after 2 weeks off doba-fettling in cyprus i get back and my new crank sensor has put the car back to exactly where it was over a month ago.

it overfuels.....splutters and refuses to idle....

gonna try the ecu relay next, than possibly the hall sender in the distributor. these seem to be common faults with the abf - unless anyone has any good ideas?

cheers for all the suggestions so far by the way!:D

aaaaaaaaargh!

replacing the ecu relay hasn't worked either....

last option - replace the hall sender in the distributor.

anyone got any better ideas?:wtf:

Hall senders a good possibility had a simialr situation on my Polo where it would turn over, fire then die, then refuse to start for a few hours, start again then die after a while.

Could always trade it in, just let us all know where if you do so we dont end up with it :p

I have a 1.6 cordoba and mine is just the same at the moment and my problem as turned out to be the throtle body unit you could try that, you see that did'nt come back with any fault codes after being on the diagnostic but it is a costly job i've been quoted 302 quid and then 40 odd for fitting.
hope you get sorted dude.
