I'm looking into purchasing a 2.0 pre facelift FR.

Any known problems to look out for?

Also, is the DPF regen a problem?

I'm also a little confused with what standard spec is on these cars, can anyone give a quick list? Also are the alloys 16 or 17 as standard?

Thanks in advance

Mine are 17's bud

So far my Rad has gone which apparently is a common problem due to it rubbing it something. Also my boot handle and drivers door handle keep sticking in the open position. Hopefully a bit of WD40 will sort that out.

Radio seems to loose reception quite easy also

Same as jellybabybandit - my radiator went within 2 years.

Std alloys should be 17" with 215/40R17 tyres.

The door / tailgate handles sticking is known to the dealers but they won't admit it.
The fix is a good WHITE LITHIUM grease - NOT wd40 - wd40 is only a water dispersant - not a lubricant.

Check all 4 corners for droop - some people have had the top snap off the spring.

DPF issues are far less common than the smaller engines.

Remap and DPF delete will see very healthy power gains ( 200+ bhp !!! )

The best spec ones were 2010MY - from 2011 up to the facelift they seemed to remove more and more kit.

Panoramic roof is nice to have but I would never have paid for it new.

I've only had mine 2 months and so far really please with it.

DPF - you can tell when it's doing a regen but it's not caused any problems. I do very little town mileage.

Deano what parts of the locks need to come out to be greased ?

Nothing apparently.

When you pull on the door handles - you will see a curved slider near the back.
All they do is fire white lithium grease on to the slider.

Many of the door handles left the factory with no lube on the handles - all you are doing is putting there what should have been there.

The problem is worse in winter because salt is in roadspray and it creeps in to the handles.

What does the regen feel like?

Quite hard to FEEL on the 2.0TDi

Idle will hold at around 1000rpm instead of the normal 800rpm and the car will be a little more sluggish.

The two things the ibiza TDi needs are - 1. A Regen happening light on the dash, 2. A temp gauge

So there is no detrimental effects on performance or fuel economy whilst the regen happens? How long will the regen last for?

Yes it will use a little more fuel but not much.

Depends how the regen is performed :
Lowspeed regen - ( high idle + extra fuel used ) can be 40 mins or so
Driving regen - around 15 to 20 mins at a steady 2000 to 2500 rpm

What are the differences between an FR and say a Sport (pre facelift)?

I've gathered the FR has 15mm lower suspension and thicker ARBs. Any other differences?

Far nicer interior in the FR
17" wheels vs 16"wheels
2.0TDI in FR vs 1.6TDi in sport
XDS differential in 2.0TDi FR

Agreed - and to add - the exhaust smells like you have just smoked the tyres - haha

the first time I experienced that I thought I had smoked the brakes - which would have been a dissapointment cos I wasn't driving it that hard - until I worked out it was a symptom of the DPF regen.

A word of warning about diesels and low mileage use; the two don't work well together.

For a DPF equipped diesel your average journey should be at least 10miles otherwise the DPF will clogup. Never buy a diesel for short journey commutes otherwise it could ultimately cost you more than a petrol to run. This is due to DFR replacement costs or dealer regen costs.

The occasional short journey is safe but I'm talking about the overall use pattern, especially through the winter period. A 2.0L diesel will not fully warmup in 10 miles.

ps. I'd love to own a diesel but my commute is only 10 miles. I get almost 50MPG out of my 1.2TSI petrol on a yearly average.

I am still unsure how much of this is dealer bullshit to sell a much more profitable petrol engine. And how much is fueled by the govenment ( they are just about to remove the 3% diesel premium that company car drivers pay for a diesel )

I bought my FR 2.0TDi based on a 25 mile each way drive to work
Then work decided to move

WINTER
I do 3 miles each way drive to work.
Twice a month I do 50miles each way to the airport.
Now and again I need to take a 15 minute trip down a motorway to complete a re-gen.

I still average 47+mpg week to week

SUMMER
I do 3 miles each way drive to work.
Twice a month I do 50miles each way to the airport.
At the weekend I end up doing between 100 and 150 mile round trips to trail centres for mountainbiking.

I then average 56+mpg week to week

The 2.0TDi doesn't use any oil in between 10,000 mile services. The TSi motors are not quite so frugal on oil I believe.

The DPF can be removed and the car re-mapped to a very reliable 185+hp ( 200+ if you want ) - and it can still do 60+ mpg on a run.

I will stick with my dirty diesel for the foreseeable future.
Petrol belongs in motorcycles :rofl::rofl:

Does anyone know when SEAT starting skimping on the stereo and speakers? The other half has a 09 1.4 sport and it has a fantastic system, the speakers are really bassy. Not sure if it was upgraded or not. Was there an option to upgrade the speakers when buying new?
