I have a 2017 Leon fitted with a 2.0 150 TDI engine, which has done 30k miles

It was 3 years old yesterday, and had a second variable service, carried out by my local VAG specialist now that the car is out of warrenty.

They noted that it has a slight squeal from the timing belt tensioner area, and recommended further investigation. I must admit that I have never noticed the noise.

I mentioned that it is now out of warranty, but that suggested taking to a SEAT dealer to see if they can investigate, suggesting that if it is faulty it might be fixed under goodwill.

Problem is where I am in Essex SEAT dealers are very few and far between, my fear is that if I go to the trouble of having it looked at, it maybe a subjective opinion as it's a slight noise, where they say "They all do that" And I then get charged for a strip down at my cost.

I have far more trust in my VAG specialist to be honest, having used them for years with a number of cars.. As such am tempted to just let them have a look instead, but obviously will have to pay for inspection + anything that needs replacing.

However does anyone have any similar experience with this engine. I would be surprised if the tensioner is faulty so soon, not unless their is a manufacturing fault?

PS They also found 3 shocks that are weeping after only 3 years / 30k too. Disappointing I have already had the battery fail after 2 years, which was replaced under warrenty

I have a collegue that has late 2016 FR 2.0 TDI 150ps that has the same issue as you with belt tensioner, his Leon is under waranty and they changed him all the rollers and belt still problem perist also his leon was under 40k kilometers once theyve noticed this first time.

About wheeping shocks, it seems that all MQB cars from late 2016/ early 2017 have same issue.
Mine late 2016 has weeping issue with both rear shocks. 2 of mine friends late 2016 has one or both front ones weeping. There are couple of other friends with golf7 and octavia from that period and all have at least one weeping shock absorber and all that with cars with less than 50k kilometers...

So looks like the VAG empire bought a dodgy batch of shocks from a supplier in 2016 /2017?

When my battery failed I had a VW dealer come to my house to fit a new battery, and he said that VW fitted a batch of faulty batteries in 2017, and that he was replacing loads of them!

More confused about tensioner, don't want to pay to have it fixed / have it fixed under warranty for it not to be cured.

But then again at least you havew peace of mind, that the timing belt is not going to break, no doubt on the fast lane of a motorway 2am on a winter's morning when it is snowing!
