First check is check battery is charged and is charging( measure voltage and drop test), check cables are tight.

I would be checking battery cables are tight with good continuity. Has any work been done recently on it?

Will do a check on battery. No there hasnt been done any work on it. Only few coding stuff (turning fog lights and one button fold mirrors). The esc problem started during winter. It just randomly started giving us esc error and now it goes into a full meltdown. Alot of databus missing message errors wich atm disappear by clearing them.

Did the battery check inside car. Said 80% wich i think should be ok? Checked fuses aswell all seemed ok. Now car doesnt start again. Fan just starts to spin and No crank/start. Alot of errors

Any updates.
, You should check battery with a drop test not the inbuilt one in car doubt thats accurate probably time and voltage based not measuring capacity(amps) also check and unplug wiring harness going into ecu and check contacts (spray with electrical cleaner). Then also try to read fault codes after youve confirmed all the above. Then let us know and go from there.

Did a drop test that was ok. Havent checked ecu yet. Havent had time to dig it out under the wiper stuff. Atm there is no errors in the car. Car starts fine again. So it makes me think its some sort of bad connection somewhere but to find the bad connection is another story.

It sounds very intermittent, could be something like the ignition switch perhaps?

Yes its very random. Ignition sounds very unlikely to my ears bcs the car starts for like 1 second Whenever it is in error mode.

What Chris said here is right. The Shorted CAN line fault in the gateway module will probably stop the car starting whenever that happens. It could be any module in the car, but seeing as you can't communticate with the ECU when the fault happens, then I'd say there is a 95% chance that is where the problem lies.

I'd start by checking the power and grounds to the ECU, checking for corrosion inside the ECU wiring connectors, and checking the wiring around the ECU module, looking for any broken wires.
It could also be an internal fault with the ECU itself, the CAN gateway module, or even a different module entirely. If it gets to that point then you will need someone with an occillascope to view the CAN signal while unplugging different modules to try and trace the fault. Your average garage is not going to be able to do this, it will need to be a dealer or someone who specialises in electrical fault finding.

I have recently seen 2x different cars damaged by rodents - probably mice.
One made a nice nest in my friends Rangerover Evoque air intake, the other had a dinner out of my parents washer bottle cap - luckily appears to be no more nibbling!

Is there a chance a mouse could have nibbled some wires?

As the CAN gateway is reporting the short, is it worth buying/begging/borrowing one and installing it to see if the fault goes away? If the fault stays, then go round the rest of the modules looking for cable damage or water damage, unplug them one-by-one and see what changes?

I'd have guessed at damaged cables, but as stated above, there could be a faulty module shorting the bus, and as it seems to clear after an overnight stand, maybe that's it? AIUI high-speed CAN has a 120 ohm termination either end, so is it worth putting a multiumeter on the bus, checking for a short, then unplugging modules or moving cables to see if it changes?

Good point about mice, happens more than you'd think.

[disclaimer: I'm not that experienced with CAN, just seems like a possibility]

If the short was on the gateway module itself, then i'm 99% sure he wouldn't have coms with any modules, but i could be wrong. The trouble is Gateway modules need coding to the car so you can't just swap them to test, and I don't know how much a module is, but it's probably not cheap even second hand.

If it was shorted to ground then that would be a easy option with the multimeter, but that fact that it's shorted to + makes it a bit more complicated, as you would also need to find which circuit/voltage rail it's shorted to.
The fact that it is shorted to + rather than ground, makes me think it's probably not a wiring issue, and much more likely that it's a componant level issue inside one of the modules. To have a break in a CAN wire would be one thing, but for it then to find a volatge source would be even less likely IMO. That being said, i think the wiring needs to be ruled out before condeming a module,

If the OP is good with that sort of thing then it's definitely an option to have a dig around with the wiring diagram and a DMM, but probably not a good idea and the results will be pretty meaningless to 99% of people.

It would probably take a auto electrician with an oscilloscope less than an hour to diagnose. Probably the best option for most people.
