2 button key fob?

I have an 01 Seat leon which has the old 2 button key fob, unfortunately the signal strength has got really bad so I want to replace it and I don't have the spare and I'm not paying for one from the dealership. I've seen one on ebay, but the key blade isn't blank, so what I want to know is which part of the key has the signal sender bit in??
Is it the bottom bit with the key blade on or the top bit which has the buttons on?
I took mine apart and the transponder is in the key blade side, but I can easily swap those over.

Have you tried replacing the battery in the key first?
The one on ebay will work you need to get a new key blade and glass transponder (which is in the top bit)
as these can only be programmed once to a car.
The electronic part (in the bottom part with the buttons on) can be re programmed by yourself there is a video on you-tube on how to do this but the transponder needs to be programed by the dealer so get the lot programmed by them for a small price.

The transponder is glued in WELL and break easily dont force it out if you only have the one flip key as you wont be able to deactivate the imobaliser and start the car

Thought the lack of signal was a sign the batterys where on the way out.

bottom Y piece is the blade and holds the 'chip' for the passive immobiliser

round keyring end part is the remote locking part

if the signal strength is low change the batteries ? if its cr2032 originally we used to get em back every 6 months or so until we swapped to 2X cr2016's. not ideal but seemed to give em a good boost

i got a new key when i bought the car as the other key was broken. €130!

but yeah, i don't use the old one as the signal is very weak, even after a new battery. does anyone actually know why?

I bought new batteries and the motorparts shop have a gizmo to test the key fob after they've changed them to make sure it works, and mine struggled to light that up.

This is the same key as the one I have I just thought if the signal comes from the button half of the key then I could buy this and put the key blade end from mine on and reprogram the frequency of the button end, job done???
