2000 Leon 1.9 TDI Key coding

Morning Folks,

Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me.

Just picked up a Seat Leon 2000 1.9TDI and it seems that the keys have been a little bodged by a previous owner

Neither remote works so I have to open the drivers door with the key, which is different to rest or the locks & ignition on the car.

After doing some digging it seems that the drivers door barrels been changed and that the original key for the cars remote is knackered, engine still turns over so transponder must still be fine.

the key I use to for the door is a complete remote key so if its possible id like to have that coded to the car save me buying another

it is the early type where to reprogramme the key to the car you have got to use one key in the door and one in ignition.

Ive been searching countlessly and whilst there is piles of information about keys, for someone new to VAG cars its a bit of a maze, Ive read a lot about VAGCOM being able to programme keys

If anyone could help or suggest someone who can help id be very grateful, I am based in Walsall but willing to travel to get this sorted.

Many thanks

Ian

have you tried programming the remotes yourself with the manual procedure?

I do keys for a living & you're not going to be able to program the key you have that works in the drivers door to start the car so regardless of what you do with your keys you're going to have 2 different keys.

There's 2 options,

Option 1, get a remote sorted that unlocks the doors & attach that to the key head of the key that operates the ignition. That way your remote locking works but if the battery dies you can unlock the car using the blade in the passenger lock.

Option 2, find a full lockset on Ebay & change them all so they match, it isn't that hard to do, door barrels take a couple of mins each, ignition barrel takes a bit longer as they have tamperproof bolts. I did a full lock change on a TT at a motorway services in less than an hour

Seemed the spare key I had was incompatible anyway, seems that whilst the casings generally look the same there are differences within the keys.

just had to fork out for a new key at £100, whilst the key wont work in the door at least the remote gets me in and works in the ignition

thanks all for your help
