Checked all the bolts for the subframe would come loose... needless to say I was amazed when they all did!! Happy days.

Some elements are not too bad, it’s mainly the beam that’s really bad, so once it’s off and apart I’ll decide if it’s all going for blasting and coating or if I’ll do some of it at home.

Also started to disconnect all the cables and hoses.

Need to take the exhaust off tomorrow and then I can drop the axle.

So today was the day... axle off, pretty easy all today just need to make sure you disconnect and clear the ABS cables and brake lines.

Used a couple of jacks just to ease it off. Next is to strip it down and get it ready for blasting and coating.

It’s looks a bit worse for wear in places so makes sense to get it done, car will be off the road for a how yet, it I’ve got another car, a van and a motorcycle so not a big issue and it’s not like I can go anywhere anyway

In other news discs and lads have arrived, but the spline socket I ordered is “to follow” which is pretty annoying.

So a few pics...

I’ve given all the bolts a good spray with ACF50 to make it a bit easier to get them all off as well.

May start with the dismantling later today or tomorrow.

Slow and gruelling progress. The bolts are are oxidised into the sleeves for the bushings... so they are a real pig to remove. I was planning on upgrading the bushings anyway, which is just as well as these are all now ruined...

I’ve also sheared my first bolt, one of the ARB bolts, luckily it’s not a major issue as you can access the retaining nut on the rear which I will cut off and get a new one welded on.

Other than that my knuckles are in a sorry state...

ARB is off as is the right hand axle and control arms. Progress is still slow... soon the main frame should be free of parts though and I can get it to the powder coater, then i'll be ready to start putting some of it back together.

Just trying to decide which bushes to get to replace the worn ones.... £250 for a full set of uprated ones!

Well... kind of... maybe... I like the idea but the price is significant... Im debated the best option. The car handled pretty well with the standard bushes so theres a part of me that just thinks I should stick to them.

Pretty much there with the strip down.

A pile of bits I still need to break down...

The main subframe and swing arms. The eccentric bolts are a right pig to remove, I’m going to get the chap at the powder coaters to remove them.

I’m also leaving all the bushes in place for blasting as I don’t want the surfaces to be damaged by the process.

New poly bushes also on order...

Everything now with the powder coater and I’m waiting for parts so not much to do now other than tidy up some odds and sods.

If I were you I would also some paint on those rear disc back plates, they rust like crazy!
Loving the tread so far Sharpy, keep up the good work!

Thanks Matt. I was looking at doing that as you quite rightly say they rust like mad and are actually quite a pain to remove so a few coats of hammerite satin black looks like a plan.

It’s been one day and I’m fed up of waiting to get things back... I now regret deeply telling the powder coater there was no rush... ha

Pottering about doing odds and sods. Given the new dust shields an extra 4 coats of paint to hopefully slow down the rot as much as possible... remains to be seen how effective it is though.

A big bag of bolts and some bushes were delivered today. Hopefully I’ll have all the other bits back next week and I can start the rebuild.
