When is this supposed to be due?

Looking at the service book I got with my car, 18 month old 2.0 FR DSG, it shows some intervals where the "toothed belt" is to be inspected and changed if necessary. The only call for a mandatory change of timing belt is after the first 180,000 kms. :banned:

Am I reading this wrong, (I suppose so...) what should the timing belt change be due at?

The new EA888 TSi 211 does not have a belt as is chain driven so does not require changing.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my car being a 2010 Leon FR 2.0 TSi is due the major service and I keep seeing that there is a timing belt chain on the 2.0TSi but unless my eyes are deceiving me my engine has a timing belt not a chain.. Confusion.

The 2010 FR I had was the E888 engine (211 bhp) which had a chain driven cam. I'm sure that engine came out at or around facelift time (2009 iirc) so it depends when yours was actually built. If it's the earlier 197 bhp engine then its a belt.

Thanks, I took a couple of pictures tonight is this what your E888 engine(211ps) looked like? Mine is also a 2010 FR so in theory should be the exact same engine..

Ta, if i'm not mistaken don't the last 2 images show a belt rather than a chain? This is where my confusion arises or is the chain out of site, very strange all round.

That's not the cam drive, that's the auxiliary belt (alternator, air con ) the cam drive will be under a cover behind all that.

Ah right i'm thinking back to my previous cars, notably the Clio 182 I had. Cheers.

Apologises for all of the questions but what would be required at the 4 year service then, i've seen some horror stories with cam tensioners going etc which really doesn't fill me with any confidence when I put the foot down.

Can't answer that one for you bud, FR was part ex'd for R before it reached that stage, and R has a belt.
