2011 IbizaFR Diesel fuel gauge issue

Hi guys my Ibiza FR 2L Diesel typically gets 400-425miles to a tank. Recently filled it all the way to the top (until the pump at the filling station clicked), and drove off. Did a lot more motorway driving than normal, and was extremely economical (65+mpg), and after 250 miles i just about lost my second 'bar' of fuel. knowing i was due a 500-mile round trip the next day i filled it to the top, which took 21.8L. obviously with only a 45l fuel tank that doesn't add up, especially as i lost my second bat around 10 miles before filling up. i since filled up again and have done 200 miles hard, aggressive driving, and still only lost 2 bars. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks for any help. Dan

My Ibiza is a bit weird like this, my top 4 bars/blocks will last a while but under half it goes down quick even when driving the same. Try driving till the last bar and see how quickly it goes down after your 2nd bar has gone. Sometimes my bars dont dissapear till I restart the car.

issue i have is if it took 21.8L to fill from (as it said) 3/4 of a tank, it should only need 12, not 22. just don't wanna get caught short with fuel as I've ragged it since fillings dn it still says i have 535 miles left, after doing a tad over 210. so no way after averaging 32mpg will it do 700+ miles haha

sounds the same as my Ibiza was.

After filling I could drive 150 miles and the gauge would still show full. Mines regularly did 500 miles to a tank. I reset my trip when I brimmed it and based any calculations on that.

Trying to calculate miles per bar on the gauge is not accurate - as you've found out.

Same on mine, 200 miles and the range only went up. Then it dropped off full and the range was accurate.
