I respectfully disagree. We are discussing the Ibiza model range, not the Leon...

The 2.0TDI engine currently in the FR TDI can easily be supplied in 170PS trim as standard. As you have said the Leon FR comes with this engine spec. Stick 170PS in a supermini and you can't tell me that the car won't be quick. This output compares very favourably with the 180PS that a 1.4TSI Cupra/Boc puts out - granted the power is made in a different way between the engines. As far as I know (and I am willing to stand corrected on this) the 1.4TSI engine is not supplied as standard anywhere in the VW Group with more than 180PS output at present. The Leon Cupra and Cupra R uses a 2.0TSI engine and these are not available in the Ibiza (at least at present) so it's not really fair to use the Leon Range as a comparison to the Ibiza models.

That's my opinion, but I fully appreciate it won't be everybody's! LOL

There would be no point as the diesel would be more tax and similar mpg as the pd170.

For me the MPG is what sold the ibiza to me, the fact it is so quick while also able to return 48-50mpg when i travel the motorway is a huge posative for me.

If it didn't i would be in a Clio RS200 right now.

I was referring more to the actual screen in the middle, the facelift picture shows the old pre-2011 version! Agree though the current dials/ surround look nicer

I don't think the clock position is dependant on year, i think it's more engine size/trim.
My Ibiza is MY10 and has the clock to the left and gear change indicator to the right.

All the newer models I've seen have had the clock to the left, think the screen itself is different. The other change is the location of the word 'trip'. Old models have it on the left, newer ones have it on the right above miles.

Very slight changes but noticeable to me anyway!

Mine must be the newer type then, as it says trip above miles.
I doubt they'd change the screen back to an older version, these photos seem heavily photoshopped, so I'd say they've probably just messed it up somehow.

Quickness wouldn't be the issue, it'd probably be quicker and have a much higher top speed than the 1.4 TSi

Now there's a thought... Wonder if they'd do a discount for 2 cars!

Probably going to be August before the remap gets done (current insurance expires then) but looking for a decent power upgrade.

I think this is fantastic news! If I can have an Ibiza ST in FR trim with the 1.6tdi engine, I may just forget my plans for a Skoda Yeti and stick with Seat

TBH I think it makes sense to offer all engines with all trim levels, it certainly works for the likes of Ford.

Sorry, mate but we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. FR should be the de facto warm hatch Seat brand. Putting in 1.2TSI and 1.6TDI engines (good engines though they are) is diluting the FR brand. Seat should have put the 2.0TDI engine in the estate - that would have made sense.

By all means give lowered powered and priced Ibizas a sporty body kit and suspension, but what's wrong with simply calling them a Sport or Sportrider?

Tbh don't see the problem. If you like sporty versions and have money then buy Cupra, if you have less money buy FR with better engine and if you have less money then that buy FR with lower spec engine. Its not like they made FR with only lower spec engine, you can still get 1.4 tsi for example. If you're happy with the car why would it bother you if someone else has stronger/weaker engine?!

I think it makes perfect sense allowing you to fit the engine you want to the trim level you want. It's not just about cost, I see it as being able to create the perfect package for the individual.
I wouldn't advocate this for the Cupra, I would keep that as is possibly with a hot diesel option though.

As an FR driver it does feel like the car is not as exclusive as it once was, certainly won't be getting another one.

I see no problem with offering the trim level of the FR with a smaller engine, but call it a sport/sportrider and keep the FR badge for the faster versions, be that the oil burning derv or the oil burning 1.4TSi.
