2015 Leon 1.4 EcoTSI 150ps fr exhaust help!

Hello everyone

I recently purchased a 2015 Seat Leon 1.4 EcoTSI 150ps FR 3 door from a Seat dealership.

Love the car apart from the exhaust sound. It's louder than I would like it (idle it's OK, but as soon as you enter the higher revs it really booms in sound and becomes far too loud for me.)

I was told by the dealership that this was an optional extra that the previous owner added when he bought the car new, however i've taken it to a garage who got it up on the ramp and its quite clearly been modified as there are cuts and welds in the pipes and no boxes at all.

I got the garage to add two middle boxes hoping that this would reduce the sound but its done very little, in fact it still sounds pretty much the same.

Does anyone know how much a standard exhaust system fitted would be, and would it reduce the sound considerably or are these cars quite loud as standard?

My car has a twin exhaust (left and right twin tailpipes) and I haven't seen any others like it. The bumper hasn't been cut at all and was made for a twin system but most leon fr's i've seen just have the twin tailpipes on the left hand side, so would I need different system than standard?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have a 2016 150 FR with the standard exhaust and the bumper just has the 1 cut out to the left - maybe yours was cut neatly on the right to match unless it has a Cupra rear bumper?

Where abouts are you located as Tony Banks exhausts in Leeds could quieten your system by adding bigger silencers?

Just had another proper look and you are right, it has been cut, they've done a good job though so it looks OEM but now means I can't put a standard exhaust on without having a random hole in my bumper which is annoying.

I'm located near Dudley in the West Midlands so a bit of a drive to Leeds unfortunately.

Unsure what else I can do really as the middle boxes haven't worked, really don't want to fork out on a new custom full exhaust system, especially given the fact I want it sounding as standard as possible!

Might be worth going back to SEAT garage you bought it from and saying you bought it on the understanding it was a factory optional exhaust - as it's an aftermarket you want it putting back to standard?
Sometimes good used bumpers come up on ebay otherwise a used 1 requiring a respray might be an option - maybe dealer would agree to paint it?

Get a standard back box, and fit a rieger rear diffuser with the single exit to cover the cut side

You could buy an optional 2nd exhaust pipe on the Alfa Romeo giulietta which wasn’t connected to the actual system. (Was just tips with a length of pipe). It may be worth getting the one side “disconnected” or having a standard exhaust refitted and a matching set of tips the other side not connected to the exhaust so that you have an unsightly hole in the bumper.

I'm going to go back to the garage I got the middle boxes fitted from first and see if there is anything they can do, because regardless of the fact its an aftermarket exhaust, they charged me £140 for work which they said would make the exhaust quieter which it hasn't at all.

They are a powerflow dealer so can make custom exhausts but I can't imagine they will ever be able to make it as quiet as the standard system which is ideally what I want.

Buying a standard exhaust from a breakers yard could be an option and then getting the rieger diffuser but i'm not 100% on the looks and i've heard they are a bit of a hassle to fit.

Just very annoying about the cut in the bumper, I thought as I was told it was an "optional upgrade", finding a twin standard exhaust would be easy but turns out they don't even exist!

Maybe a standard Cupra exhaust could be fitted? probably just a reducer needed inbetween as the bore size i'd guess is slightly bigger? this would be a nice quiet system and you'd fill both rear cutouts

I'm assuming your exhaust is post cat so you still have that in place for MOTs?

So I took the car back to the garage tonight and they've said they are going to do a whole new full exhaust system from scratch, putting in middle and back boxes but still keeping the twin dual exit tailipipes so there's no gap in the bumper.

They have said they are 99% sure the exhaust will be quieter after all that, but as it's still a performance exhaust there will still be a bit more noise than standard.

I'm unsure about the cat situation so will ask tomorrow, but i'm assuming if they are fitting a whole new system it should be made to pass an MOT?
