Hi everyone i currenty own a seat leon fr 2015 however it now requires money spent as pressuring badly had to vw specialist and suspect wants egr or cylinder head gasket as exhaust gas pressurising the coolant quite badly, so decided want rid and get something slightly different.

The 2nd hand car market is rediculous at the moment so thought about doing a pcp but think over a few years i will loose to much so think will trade mine in and then get car loan for the rest. Cant decide i want a 2019 seat ibiza fr model for around 14k or do i stick with a leon and get a 1.5tsi ?

What are the engines like and are they reliable thats the main thing. The ibiza doesnt have electric rear windows and parking sensors etc unless get top spec what is crazy.

Any opinions or advice welcome, i could easily get a boring car but love a having a bit more or a sporty and pokey car.
Thanks dean

Hi
it all depends what you want from a car . Coming from a Leon FR which you prob have 120/140 bhp you may well be a bit disappointed. I’ve got a 71 plate Ibiza 110 FR and whilst good for a 1.0tsi it won’t have the speed of the Leon.
The Ibiza handles well , quite quiet on the move , spacious for a small car and cheap to run.
The Leon will feel bigger , more refined and spacious for a family but the 1.5tsi had that kangaroo ing issue and a lot of people avoided this engine .Maybe a 1.8tsi Leon might suit you better.

I went from a 2013 Mk3 Leon 2.0TDI to a MK5 Ibiza SC FR FL 1.0TSI both DSGs. As I do not have kids, the Ibiza worked for me, as actually I prefered the handling of the Ibiza and the chunky FR steering wheel. Differences is that the Leon was SE trim with TechPack (LED headlights, Sat Nav, DAB) whereas the Ibiza was all options ticked (Seat Sound, Bi-xenons, Blackpack etc). I did have a drive on several occasions on the mk6 ibiza, and yes the step up from mk5 ibiza is quite large, and it's almost on par with the Leon in size. 1.5 on Ibiza is only availible in manual guise. I found the 1.0TSI more than adequate, depite being 40bhp down on the Leon 2.0TDI. Have you considered the Arona? There's a 1.5 DSG there along with the usual 2 state of tune 1.0TSIs.

I think leasing a newish one will be over £200 / month so prob not best option.
Too give you some idea of price I bought my 1.0 tsi 110 FR on sept 1st last year (71 plate) for £16.3k.
im getting a ford Puma in a couple of weeks so ibiza going then , have been offered £16k by same garage to buy back.
1.0tsI are good in the Ibiza , mine was like a slug when i 1st got it , now with 1200 miles on a bit better but I fitted a tdi pedal box which improves the accelerator response a lot . Good on fuel and cheap insurance a bonus.

Yeah think lease works out to much, i will be trading my car in and paying a bit and maybe a car loan for the rest.

Now its down to a few thinks like do o pay 14k for a 19 plate or pay the extra 3k and get a 21 plate that will still have warranty . Also the new ones have nicer dash etc.

Is the warranty 3 years ? And any other info on the 1l tsi engine would be great was the timing chain issues sorted etc and are they reliable ?

I think in 4 years or so i will most likely loose at least 7k but what other options is there if i want a new-ish decent car haha

Thanks again dean

I think the newer the better and a full warranty is better. And also newer Ibiza will be worth slightly More.
if there is only a few £££ between them all go for the newest.

Yeah i agree, hard as have to draw line somewhere so going to try get a 2021 fr sport for less thank 18k.

Was looking at brand new (facelift)but that takes to over 20k so will try for a 2021 in black, and exterior dont look any different.

Crazy how dont have reverse sensors and windy windows but should be fine without, Are the little 1l peteol engines reliable enough and dont have any common faults?

Thanks

I,ll be very happy with £16.3k for my FR 71 plate .that’s what I paid and what I’m reselling at when my Ford puma arrives.
71 plate FR has rear elec windows and climate control.1ltr good little engines , great on fuel .

Regarding the "timing chain issue". This was definitely an issue on the earlier engines and I put off replacing my old 1.9tdi Cordoba estate - a car I loved very much - until the EA 211 engine became available (around 2015?) This later engine family uses a timing belt and seems to be a reliable and well regarded unit. I bought the 90hp Ibiza ecomotive tsi - first reg march 2016 - and am very pleased with it. It's very slightly down on ultimate "lugging" power compared to the diesel - but pulls surprisingly strongly. I'm especially surprised at how quiet and vibration free it is, considering it's a 3 cylinder. There is some turbo lag if you try to accelerate from very low engine revs but it pulls strongly from even about 1500 rpm - as you'd expect from a turbo installation. Fuel consumption is outstanding and not far off what I got with the diesel. I regularly see 60 mpg on trips down the M6/M5 to Devon. Driving around town I typically see 35 to 45 mpg depending on traffic but if you drive aggressively, flooring it away from lights etc - and it goes surprisingly well if you do - then, as with most turbo'd engines, it drinks deeply of the old "go juice". Some people have mentioned "tappet rattle" especially when cold and I can confirm they do rattle a wee bit. This is because the cam followers are roller followers and is nothing to worry about, they quieten down to almost nothing once the engine is up to temp.

Whether you like a car though is a very subjective thing so you need to go and drive one. From all I've read of late it doesn't seem to be a good time to be buying cars just now though.

White for me, black is so labour intensive to keep looking good and you'll see every tiny little scratch.

Agree - I’ve owned both black (5 of them) and white cars (3) and black is a labour of love to keep looking good. Given the choice between black or white, these days I’d go for white every time. IMHO White is a very forgiving colour, easy to maintain, easy to touch in those inevitable stone chips and hides swirl marks for anyone still using the old fashioned single bucket, sponge and wash leather for car washing or entrusts their car washing to those many £5 - £10 hand car wash places.

Black does look good though if you’re able prepared to put in the effort.

Well ended up buying a 71 plate ibiza fr sport and i am extremely happy with it, had 1 previous owner but only 600 miles on clock so practically brand new just a few grand cheaper . I love the new interior still trying to get to grips with everything on it etc.

I have a spacesaver tyre from my leon but not sure if will fit this any idea ? The wheel well in the boot seems deep on the ibiza so not sure.

All in all very happy as i think these cars look stunning, and doesnt feel any smaller than the leon to be honest , also pokey enough for me around the doors and was no bother on motorway for few hours back.

Thanks dean

@Deano3; looks great 😎. Do you know why the previous owner decided to sell after only 600 miles - that’s an extremely low mileage for someone to sell a car at, unless they decided to take advantage of the current crazy prices being paid by dealers to replenish low stock levels.

Apparently a bloke bought it for wife and she decided wanted a automatic instead so got a golf R , they only sell performance cars and got it as trade in but no damge or anything its brand new so i am happy .

A few things i need to sort like maybe a spare wheel but had one for 4 years with leon and never used touch wood but not sure the leon wheel will fit this ibiza.

Need to find out if seat do any deals on services for forst few years and if will work out cheaper

And lastly need some decent cleaning equipment, i have a bit but dont want any swirl marks etc so lookimg at the autoglym polar series what is contactless so may go for that.

Exactly what I’m doing , I bought my FR 110 in sept last year (71 plate) , now with 1200 miles on I’m selling it for same price. So a few months free motoring and chopping in for a Ford puma.
I quite like the Ibiza , goes ok but the throttle response on all settings in my mind is woeful but sorted with a tdi pedal box.

My Ibiza (2016 1.0 3 cyl ecomotive estate) is on 185/60x15 tyres. As soon as I got it home I took the styrofoam insert out of the spare wheel well, jacked her up and took a wheel off and found it fitted perfectly into the spare wheel well. Bought a standard steel wheel (which was the fitment on the cheapest option at that time and is of the same rim width and offset as the alloy) fitted it with a Barum 185/50x15 tyre and dropped it in. Job done!
