Hi all,

With the imminent arrival of the 290 I thought I best get set in sorting my insurance out and boy was I in for a shock. You ever get the feeling of not been wanted!! Currently with A Plan and asked them for a renewal quote and I was left speechless £1100!!! as I was in the process of telling them I won't be taking them up on the offer they were going to take £30 off?? Give me strength.

32 years old License held for 14 clean and 9 years NCB what you gotta do for these insurance companies in order for them to retain your custom because I'm miffed

So as you can guess is there any recommendations for decent insurance out there and have any of you had the same kind of treatment?

That's what you get for living in sunny Brum! Try Chris Knott ( they are on here) we where with Admiral , when we went to an LCR the premium went through the roof. It was obvious that they didn't want the business ( based on the car, not me & t'wife) we had a quote from Chris Knott and it was virtually half Admirals. Worth a look tbh.

We've been with Admiral on a multi car policy for the last few years and to be honest find them very reasonable though you do have to haggle at renewal time which is a bit annoying. My Cupra ST works out around £350 pa with protected NCB, business use, hire car etc etc

Adrian Flux here.

Funny thing is its about £300 cheaper for me to insure a modified Cupra than it is a standard one.

That makes no sense at all lol. Thy have not been the best either as have had previous insurance with them and again seem reluctant to offer cover for some reason or another. I must be on the naughty list

Essentially the same numbers as you, 32yrs with 14yrs worth of license, 9yrs no claims wit no tickets etc...

Im with Churchill at the moment and rang for an indicative quote for my 290 black, they did plaster the quote with caveats that it wasnt exact and isnt valid etc... (fair enough since they can only do an accurate quote once i have dates etc...) and my quote was only around £50 more than my focus (around £450 for the year) which includes the "admin" fee of £26. EDIT...this is to change from the focus to the cupra.

Sounds like you need to try another provider! :)

That quote was with breakdown and hire car plus, legal cover, £0 voluntary excess, protected NCB and the mrs as a named driver.

I was with Chris Knott for a good few years, usually the best quotes for me. With aviva this year though, they also came through on the girlfriends quote this year.

She had a non-fault accident recently and this woman kindly wrote off her immaculate 05 mini which we searched high and low for :( insurance on that for her was £400 odd and then renewal came in at over £900, more than double the price! wtaf.

No idea how some of these values are decided upon, anyway we got it down after some digging and cashback to less than last year so all happy now, well she is I'm not as it's cheaper than my derv Leon! haha

Yes I think there is much shopping around to be done and like kazand mentioned the main factor is where I live! Not the best part of England nowadays, I won't start a rant on that it will open a can of worms lol

If you can be bothered check quidco and topcashback for deals, can often get some good ones (we got £63 back with aviva)

I've found recently aviva and quotemehappy (also aviva) have been giving decent quotes.

Chris Knott over here too, a couple of hundred less than what everybody else wanted, and had a good chinwag on the phone for 30 minutes about what cars we liked. Very impressed! Haven't got to the renewal stage yet though, hoping not to be shafted with it!

Just had my renewal from diamond. They wanted 780 when I only paid 560 last year. They got it down to 590 so naturally I told them to jog on. Called up adrian flux and they were very competitive Insured protected no claims for 520. Which I feel is good. It's the best I could get on the day. Also living in Birmingham doesn't help.

I've been looking at quotes for 280's for next year when my Ibiza goes back and I'll be 21 with 1 year ncb (2 1/2 years driving) and being quoted 1.6k with elephant, is that reasonable?

Been quoted 1.3k for the new 1.8TSI Ibiza Cupra for comparison

A bean bag
Slight hijack.

Similar circumstances, but due to being abroad and not needing a car for the last three years my Ncb had run out most places. I managed to get Admiral to accept my 7 years as they have changed their expiry of Ncd policy. Only issue is it was £1000. I can get other quotes on the £500 range if I include my no claims.
I have now paid the £1k. If I cancel will I receive a new Proof of Ncd with this year on which I can now use at the cheaper companies?

Hope this makes sense?

Rang to see the cost of change when I get my 290 and it's about £20 more than my mk 2 FR, only difference is excess rises by £50, will make full year about £265 with Sheila's wheels

Yeah, I was quoted £240 for the 290. Not as cheap as my golf R which is only £189 to insure this year but not the end of the world.
