Yeah, I was quoted £240 for the 290. Not as cheap as my golf R which is only £189 to insure this year but not the end of the world.

That's crazy!

Saying that, my TVR was half the price to insure than my Leon FR is. I suppose they work on the basis that hardly anyone knows how to get in, and if they do they wouldn't know how to start it, and if they do it'll probably break down fifty yards away anyway.

Preliminary prices ive had for the 290 have been just over £300 - basically £50 more than a 60bhp citigo :wtf::wtf: - Thats with Aviva/Swiftcover.

Chris Knott dont cover Manchester postcodes unfortunately.

its just a not very honest way of saying "we dont really want your business, but if you are silly enough not to shop around you can convince us with a silly premium".

I remember when i was 20 or so with a 205gti, quotes varied from around £250 to £5,000.

Well looking at all the replies and such array of prices I've come to the conclusion that all insurance companies just make it up as they go along "think of a number between 1 & 10, double it times by 3.142 and there's your quote"

I was searching around and the best I could manage was £1400. I'm 23 y/o with 0 ncb and I've held my licence for 6 years . This is with my girlfriend as an additional driver which drove the price down from 1800 to 1400. I also live in welling .

Not a Cupra but it all helps to compare. £230 for the FR with Axa.

I was with Aviva for a few years and was paying £189 regardless of what car I quoted. This year they went nearly double hence moved to Axa.

The mysteries of car insurance quotes would fox Sherlock and makes working out women seen fairly simple.

Well I've been doing the usual phoning about today trying to find a decent quote and looks like Chris knot will be the chosen one.

I can't believe how many have come in above the £1000 mark. Is there something wrong with these cupras ? Maybe car theft has gone up in brum I know it's an all too familiar story in the news and social media!! I guess it's defo having effect on the market.

Theft of Cupra's has gone up so I've heard.. Along with a load of other VAG cars which are currently being stolen due to a lapse in the vehicle security making the easy to steal. A friend had his 290 stolen a couple weeks back through the OBD port and no keys.

For what it's worth - I'm 28, licence 11 years with 10 years NCB and I pay £318 with eSure fully comp on my 290

I'm a similar age and my NCD is 10yrs and have just received my renewal. Car is now 1yr old.

2015: £276
2016: £326

When I went to shop about based on the increase this year... I could only get £410 at the lowest! So clearly I'm renewing with my current provider.

Insurance... All just about putting money into a risk assessment and profit targets :D

So looks like the 290 won't be here till middle to late October!!

(god knows what's taking so long)

so renewal is up on the 1st September and the good guys at Chris knot have given me a price for the 290 which will cover my 184 until it arrives with no admin charges when I swap the policy over which I think was a cool thing to do.

still paying a premium for living in mighty brum that's for sure but hey ho prob cheaper to move house lol

Saying that, my TVR was half the price to insure than my Leon FR is. I suppose they work on the basis that hardly anyone knows how to get in, and if they do they wouldn't know how to start it, and if they do it'll probably break down fifty yards away anyway.

My old Alfa Romeo Spider had a 3.2 V6 engine, a drop top roof and was parked in the street, and it was the cheapest car I've ever insured. (Including my 1.2 Leon).

I've always reckoned it was because my insurers were aware that as I had been pretty much unable to complete a single journey in it without something breaking, the likelihood of anyone pinching it was extremely low!

I can't for the life of me work out how they calculate the premiums. I also previously ran a V8 Range Rover, that was barely any more expensive than my Leon either. But then my other half has a Renault Megane CC ( yes, yes I know) and that is really quite shockingly dear to insure.
