A local shop close by make custom stainles steel exhausts where I want to geta full exhaust made for my Cupra. The already have 3,5" downpipes in stock for 2.0 tfsi engines. Now im planing to go stage 2+ on my car this year but would a 3,5" downpipe have any negative or downsides over a 3" downpipe? I know 3" is more than enough for stage 2+ but wat to make sure its not going to be a bad choise taking the 3,5 version. Also wat is a good size pipe diameter for the cat back exhaust?

I believe its 3,5" top section and then tapers to 3" towards the cat.

Sounds like a good plan then. Just need to find out which cat they use.
Don't worry too much whether it is a 200 cell or 100 cell cat but if its 200 cell I would go with a 5 inch body.
Who/where is this supplier located and can you ask them if they have a jig for the mk1 lcr downpipes as I'd love to have a 3.5 inch dp for my LCR;).

These sound excellent so i wouldn't mind a bit of info too - got used to stage 1 now and ready to go stage 2 this year (funds permitting).

I must agree that the welds on the vid look poop. I have TIG welded for 2 years so I know what I'm looking at. But have been to there shop a few week back and the one he showed me looked much better.

I have a 3.5" downpipe on my R and it has no downsides to it at all. Comes out of the K04 at the same diameter, so should flow cleanly.

is there a point to having a larger downpipe if you just have the same restriction further down the exhaust ?

This one is made so it can fit an a standard exhaust. Its custom made so if I want a 3" or 2,5" from the cat they will make it the way they want. Thats the beauty of a custom made DP / exhaust.

Most aftermarket catbacks for our cars are 2.75", this doesnt stop us fitting 3" downpipes. Its a larger area allowing more flow. Same effect of adding a large induction kit, this also steps down at the maf but still makes good gains.
