Well, kinda ;)

The tyres are my fault. Coming up to 1 year and it'll be the third set of front tyres in that time, when I get 'em changed

There's a droning sound when coasting on the straight aheda/turning right, am going to check if any cables/brakes rubbing but might it be the bearings in the wheel? Car has done 38k miles, coming up to end of warranty period :(

Needs new discs front and back, pads at back, 38k miles ain't bad I suppose for brakes.

Now I jump in the car to put it in the garage, and I get the flashing coil light - and no brake lights working. I know what this is, the brake switch, because I changed it on the wife's 110k mile bora two days ago!!!

The last one is a piece of piss to do, and at £6 ain't gonna brake the bank. I can change the brakes myself so will cost about £100 or so in bits, tyres will be £100 a pop, the wheel bearing (if it is that?) will cost... not sure yet. *might* be able to do that myself. Looked on ebay for the wheel bearing puller tool, cost from £100-£150, might be worthwhile keeping it for future jobs.

Sheesh. Never rains then it pours.

Oh yeah, coming up to first MOT, road tax due in March, and insurance too I think.

Hmmm... wednesday night. Too late to do the lottery yet?

I'll give it a try on warranty - gonna drive over to JCT in the morning and mention the rumbling noise and cadge a brake switch out of 'em on warranty. Hopefully they won't need it in for long to fit it, and I'll bring my own screwdriver if they do, so I can do it on the spot :)

Garage confirmed it today - 38k miles and wheel bearing is on its way out. They said they've known them go earlier, but usually on the LCR with the 18" wheels.

Must be made of cheese :(

*fingers crossed* it's a warranty item, and am still in warranty so it'll be paid for. My mate reckons he can do his bearings on his Lotus in 30 mins, so might put him to the test with a modern car if they say they want a few hundred quid for the job doing...

This can happen on any car of any age from any maker! You think of how many they produce (we'll say 100,000 for giggles), a 0.5% failure rate is still 500 units.

It shouldn't happen agreed but it does!

How about the front shocks of a 3 week old 535d failing and causing damage to the springs and arms in the process?

Scratch the pedal switch. Lower Dashboard off, drive to GSF, buy switch, fail to notice switch ain't in right position (as most of them weren't in their stock, now put right), break switch putting it in, buy another, put in right time, drive home, dashboard on job done, 1 hour, including messing about with driving through crappy traffic! Reckon you could get it down to 10 minutes, maybe slightly less, with all the right tools and a replacement switch to hand.

Oh, and the excellent how to that put me back on the right track telling where to find the screws holding the dash in.

So, one job down, brakes (I reckon a day to do all the lot including stopping for dinner, tea breaks, scratching chin, driving about for a 7mm hex socket for the front, a 14mm (I think) for the back and skinned knuckle break.) to do and tyres, plus wheel beraing, and job done!
