As for prices, dont take this as gospel as I dont know the exact model but I would say around £50ish for the pads and £100ish for the discs for standard stuff ( total for front and back, pattern parts ).
Plus fitting of course if you cant do it yourself - couple of hours labour.

Owwww I have a 54 2.0 FSi. They quoted me £150 for the front and another £150 for the back. After just spending £250 getting it through an MOT (engine problems and 2 new tyres) I could do with waiting til next month, but want to make sure I'm not being ripped off!

The most I do for my car is feed it and water it. I even get someone else to wash it! I'm handy in the house though and can build furniture, decorate, the lot...but cars...no! I did once manage to change a fuse (only because Halfords laughed at me and said no!)
Even if you don't do the work yourself, perhaps if you mentioned where you were some kind soul might offer to do it for you for a few quid.
3mm is getting to the point where they could do with being replaced, I wouldn't wait a year to get them done but another month or so should be fine.

Edit: Although I can recommend someone in Royton (Oldham) for you. He's not gonna do it for pennies, but he's well recommended and genuine, and the job will be right when it's done.

Mate, I wouldn't trust Kwik Fit with a steel wheel and ask them to put a tyre on the right way round. I would never let them loose with a whole car while I still have a hole in my arse.

Dave at SERE motors is the best for genuine parts by far even including the delivery charges. Got front discs and pads + delivery to Birmingham for £50 less than walking in and buying them from my local dealer 2 miles away. Get the parts from Dave and a local garage to fit them.

Just DIY it mate. Nothing easier than changing front disks and pads. I paid 80ish inc vat for rear disks and pads (parts only), from GSF, brembo branded. Good quality for very good price. Front ones would cost you just a little bit more. Search forums for disks and pads change guide, i'm sure i've seen it somewhere. If not here, try briskoda or tdi club. Very similar brakes, guide for any audi, skoda, vw will do. And trust me, it is really easy. And you'll be well proud of yourself as well.
