i notice when changing into 3rd gear that it doesnt want to go in some times , its mostly when it is high up in the rev range , the car has got a b&m shortshift , its got a newish clutch and flywheel , im having the gearbox oil changed tommorow to see if that makes a difference , anyone else had this problem , had the same sort of problem with my old s3 , as soon as i changed the gearbox oil it was fine , cheers

I can't see it being the short shifter, I've got one and it's silky smooth. Although it would be worth checking that it has been fitted correctly and that the shifter is well greased up. Take the gear leaver gaiter off and check the ball joint. As you say it could be the oil that needs changing or could be the box.

from what various ppl have told me its the 3rdgear syncromesh..

has anyone changed the gearbox oil???

I am thinking about Silkolene Silktran SYN5 75W/90(Autotech), Red Line MT-90 (ECS) or Lubrication Engineers 9919 SYNOLEC (tested on my Punto GT)

mine does this too, mainly on fasst changes where the syncro cant keep up with the change.

ive had box rebuilt (other issues) and still does it.

just take it a bit easier with the 3rd gear changed and it will be good. again, no pattern here to when it does it.
