Hi,

I recently bought a 59 reg Ibiza sport TDI 1.6 but the mpg is much lower than I was hoping. Combined is a claimed 65mpg but my real world trips are 44-45mpg and thats 80%+ motorway at 70mph.

The real time mpg display gives only mid 40s cruising at 2k revs in 5th, which seems low.

My previous car was a 1.9tdi pd fabia, on the same journey I could get 50-55mpg even at 75-80 mph, claimed combined on this car us 57 mpg.

The mpg on the new car is very disappointing, a big part of choosing this car was the mpg. I bought the car from a local Indy dealer, could I reject the car or would a mechanical problem need to be found? Other than that I'm considering trading it in for some thing else as the current mpg will cost me in the long run. I borrowed a friends civic 1.8 petrol VTEC today and averaged 46 mpg on the same run.

The 1.6 Tdi will have to work harder than the 1.9 Tdi at motorway speeds.

Considering the temp. at the moment sounds ok to me as my 2.0 Tdi Leon is only returning 43 MPG at present, when the weather warms it'll return to its normal 46 MPG..

My Ibiza 2.0tdi claims 60 but only gets about 49 but as mentioned above the weather can play a big part.

Doesn't seem too far off mine tbh.
70mph on the motorway will see 45-48 usually, condition dependant.
Slow down a bit, 65mph doesn't take noticeably longer but returns 50-55 and a leisurely 60mph down the m1 (with intermittant 55's) will get me upto 60mpg for the sake of 15-20 minutes... works out at £30-40/hour.. My time isn't that valuable, ymmv :)

True, mine 1.4 pd, 5,4 l/100 km motorway, 120kmh. 4,5 l/ 100 km at 100 kmh. At 400 km trip, it is another 100 km... It is worth it :D
