If a garage is using genuine parts then they will get the parts at trade price which is is only around 10-15% off retail and the car manufacturer tells them the RRP that they have to charge.
Its daft if a garage charges more than the RRP for the parts because its easy to find out.

And yes garages do make a tiny bit of money on the parts aswell as the labour. Its just the way it is, its part of how they make money. You bring you own parts. depending on the job they will slightly increase the labour quote to compensate from the lack of profits from the parts.

the rrp for a genuine belt kit is approx £150. The Trade price is £85+vat. Thats a lot more than 10-15% discount. Making over £120 on parts prices (the OPs qoute) seems excessive. Still be cheaper to ask for a labour only price and get parts elsewhere.

None of the Seat dealers near me will fit parts
that are bought elsewhere. Unless you prove to them that it was bought from the VAG group.

I had three quotes for this work on an FR. Prices for parts, labour and VAT vary between £350 (VW specialist) and £490 (another independent specialist in NW London).. Seat West London were in the middle. My best quote for parts alone came to about £80 inc VAT.

Seat West London are a joke. Especially that service manager. Looks like he's never had a 3 course meal in his life. Seen more meat on an Ethiopian.

My leon cupra have been fully serviced by seat from day one. I even have the little sticker in the window which tells me when it's recommeded to have things done. For mine it was 50k or 4 years, but as said above i believe this was change on the facelift leon cupra to 60k or 4 years...i dont know why because they still use same engine! I think for sake of £400ish it worth having it done rather than it going bang and a new engine required

If you shop around and buy the parts yourself then you should be able to get it done a lot cheaper as others have mentioned in earlier posts.

I managed to get all my parts, genuine continental timing belt kit, tensioners, water pump, aux belt, fuel filter, oil filter, engine oil & gearbox oil for approx £260. Then got a local mechanic who I trust to carry out the work and he only took £100

Got loads more work done for less £ than the local seat dealer was charging for just doing the timing belt!
