Hi Everyone!
Seeing mixed feelings on what I think the issue on my 67-Plate Leon could be, there's no exact matches on the issue(s) I've noticed, but a fair few similar. I'm not the best on terminology and I'll put as much in as I feel can be helpful - so bear with me
Approx 2-3 weeks ago, I went over a slightly dislodged drain cover at a decent speed going round a bend. Unfortunately, my Nearside Front Left tyre hand a bulge in it the size of King Kong's fist - not ideal. Got it home, tyre changed & balanced (like for like) and assumed my problems would be over.
*Spoiler* - they weren't.
I started driving, again it again a few days after the tyre change, but came to notice a barely noticeable light 'Humming' sound that sounded like it was coming from the nearside front left area, but only when travelling around 40-42mph, anything either side - Nothing of note.
However, the Humming returns somewhat louder, though intermittent (every other second or so, like a phone on vibrate almost, still not exactly loud though) at between 60-65mph only, literally nothing when travelling at any more/less. I felt like I had some further light humming during quick deceleration, but unsure if I was just gaslighting myself at that point.
I've had it off the road for a couple weeks due to being away, though when I came back this week and took the car for a quick run to see what' what, I noticed there is almost a whirling/flapping sound when breaking/decelerating the car to a stop. Which to me sounds like contact between two components, but I'm not in the know by any means.
From what I can see online, I'm seeing a generally 50/50 split on it being a wheel barring issue OR a gearbox/drivetrain(?) issue.
Anyone suffered with the same, or able to give me any quick wins to check-off before I take it to a garage? My local SEAT garage wanted £180 for an hour of diagnosis, and I don't know how long a full deep dive is going to take...
Thanks!
Al
