Hello I am new. I have done a search for my issues but can't locate anything.

I am in Australia.

I have a 96 Seat Cordoba.

1. The tachometer and speedometer stopped working. I believe it happened after I bumped the wiring in the fuse area. Is there a particular fuse to find?
2. I have a power steering issue and believe it is the pump. The steering is hard, it makes a lot of noise, and leaks fluid.

appreciate any help.

Manuals?
Diagnosis?
Links to where I can source parts?

Do the other dials in the speedo clocks still work?! If not it could be the fuse indeed.

Sounds like pump failure on your steering however it's worth checking the rest of the pipe work just in case.

Parts are reasonable plentiful here apart from body panels lol

thanks

The other things on the dash seem to work. Any idea which fuse it is?

You'll find the fusebox door right under the steering column. You have to rotate that nob thing to open it.
The fuse numbers are written on the inside of the door. It says the instruments are the 16th fuse. Seems like all instruments and warning lights and are on a single fuse.

Your problem is probably not the fuse but you can check in anyway.

It's unlikely to be the fuse then. Check your earth connections under the bonnet. Especially the main one to Gearbox and the Head.

How did you get on with checking the PAS system?

Hmm. Same same happened to me. The speedo and the rev counter isn't working.

Everything else worked fine. I'll try to change the instrument cluster to a 2nd hand one for cheap to see whether it will work than.

I checked the earth cables, they are ok.

Guess I'll have to wait till the new intrument cluster arrives.

The forum still doesn't allow me to post links but here it is:

Seems like this is a common problem, and could happen because of a broken speedometer/tachometer motor, a broken integrated circut, or broken solderings.

In my case, solderings seem fine. I checked the conncector area with a multimeter, the other parts mostly by just looking. :D

Ok, I've put the new intrument cluter in, and it works.

Well.... I'm still curious about what was specifically broken in the old one, maybe I'll find out sometime.. :D
