Hi, does anyone know what causes the handbrake warning light to come on? apart from the handbrake switch or the low brake fluid switch.
When you start the car the light goes off when you release the handbrake but as soon as you set off (only going forward, stays off when reversing) the light comes back on.
I have played with both switches mentioned above and can get the light to come on or go off as long as the car hasn't moved. any help would be appreciated

Also the ABS light has started to stay on all the time, is this likely to be just a sensor? or ar the two lights connected to the same problem?

Before you all say get the car scanned, I can't, I have the equiptment and vagcom but some bright spark has played with the wiring behind the dash to fit a new immobiliser and remove the old one so the car will not communicate via the OBD port so have to do things the old fashioned way lol.

Hope that all made sense and thanks in advance

Geez I hope you have a paddle:D

The only thing for the abs you could try is measuring the ohms for the fronts and rears, they should all be similar but if one is really low or open circuit or something I'd change it.

Lol thanks, I'm quite used to working on my cars now, do everything myself as I don't see why I should pay someone to do something I can do eventually lol

Had an idea for the ABS sensors, the Ibiza is my Mrs' car but I have an Octavia 1.8T 4x4, had a quick look tonight and the ABS sensors are the same, on the front at least, so I will try swapping them one at a time to see which one brings up a light on my car if any

Do you have a front upper strut brace on your car? I had a problem with mine caused by the strut brace interfering with the low brake fluid level switch on top of the reservoir.

No there isn't a strut brace on the car, it's standard-ish as far as i know(not sure about the spoiler or the wheels)

I had both lights come on when i had two ABS sensors out. did a fault code scan, and showed up 2 ABS sensors, where as previously it only had the one code.

did one sensor, and read code again. 1 had cleared, and just the ABS light was on only.

Thanks Naz going to try changing both front sensors( swap them with my octavia) when i get chance to see if it makes a difference. not sure if the back sensors are the same(not looked yet)
