advantage of fitting a catch can

catch can now fitted

hi all just finished fitting my catch can.





also i removed the pcv system. im will change the black hose for red in the near future, just need someone to telll me where to get it from

yes i used dannys pics for removing the pcv. the catch can its self is a piece of cake. i have taken a few pic of removing the pcv just for you wanye as for the hose, can i use normal red silicone?

doult it mate think it will have to be oil resestaint the place near me does it all oil water hi temp in all colours ill go down monday and get you there number and pm you

It doesn't have to be oil resistant hose as it's only vapours going through like the rest of the hoses it's not a constant flow of oil

Oh and looks good how did you fix it to the car ?

i removed the relay box. moved the 1 relay inside it to the plastic channel next to the catch can. i then cut off the bracket from the relay box and thats it, a perfect solid fit with quick release

Ok looks like I will do the same should only cost about 40 quid all in well poss 45

Advantage of a catch can?

Hi. Iv seen a few peeps havin catch cans or uprated catch cans to the car? Why do we do this?

I did it to stop the oil vapour that's produced from soiling the intake tract (turbo, intercooler, pipes, TB etc).

catches all the oily crap that is otherwise vented back into the intake with the clean air to be reburnt.

very handy if your HG goes as well lol catches all the mayo and sludge as i found out on a previous car!

A lot of people remove their pcv valve when doing this, I am not sure that is a good idea!

So basically what your saying is used air is then recirculated back into the intake but sometimes it takes sludge and oily crap with it. Hence why you sometimes get an oily residue in your Intercooler etc?

Do you have to regularly empty catch cans?

its usually oil vapour that is vented back, one of the reasons yes. you will get a little bit of oil from the turbo as well.

Basically the oil vapour is meant to reduce the octane rating of the fuel mixture, so that is the main advantage, but removing the pcv valve means that the crankcase isn't breathing as designed, so it may be better to plumb the catch tank into the oem system to reduce oil vapour but retaining the stock breathing system.
