advice needed for noob pls engine/turbo blown???

ill start the story from beggining

hi all ive just bought my ibiza tdi last month 130bhp sport loved it as it has had a remap to around 170 now the bad part as i was tearing to work i heard a loud whining noise (sounded like turbo) then smell burning looked in my rear view mirror, and there was no boost and i couldnt see for the smoke so pulled over and there was smoke coming from engine bay automatically thought engine had gone as when i opened oil cap there was smoke coming from in the engine, tried to start it again and it kept trying to tick over but wouldnt. now the next day it started straight away with smoke just coming from the exhaust towed it to garage and it wouldnt start again

now its a asz engine my first instinct is the engine has blown but reading into it i have been these engine just dont blow however it does start sometime and when it did the smoke came just from exhaust so is it turbo????

why wont engine start all the time??

is it turbo or engine??

can i fit a gt1752 stage 2 turbo to it and is it an easy fit??



praying it is just turbo any advice would be appreciated having to resort to driving my project polo gti and fuel is killing me want my dirty diesel back

It sounds like it could be either of the following;

Turbo

You've cooked it or it's given up the goose. A loud whining or siren noise usually means that the propeller shaft is loose and the bearings are screaming. No boost could signify that the blades have blown out, into your boost pipes and into your engine (worse case scenario)

Major Boost Leak

One or more of your boost pipes has popped off. Look around all your boost pipes and look at each pipe and connection. The most popular tends to be the top intercooler boost pipe however, it could be any of them. A popped boost pipe would give you low or no boost along with heavy smoking from the car as it's over fueling to compensate for the lack or air.

Smoke from the oil cap would be normal from a warm diesel engine, as long as it's not billowing out.

Even with no boost pipes your engine should start, although hesitantly and fairly smokey. When your engine has started, you should hear the turbo spool, if not it's knackered.

My advice:

Before you begin turning over the engine and possibly causing further damage, remove the turbo from the car and inspect the blades and shaft for play or damage. If there is damage or you suspect bits have come away into your boost pipes, then it's time to order a new turbo.

If your turbo is ok and there are no obvious signs of wear or damage, check all boost pipes and connections.
