bang on ready for cambelt/water pump change mate, the costliest service of them all. this is due at 60k

look out for leaky door seals, water in footwell.

check coil packs, and usual things, oil colour, general maintenance etc.

fsh is important.

it says it has fsh, what sort of price would that service be?

id say that the price james has quoted is a dealer price for cambelt change with no service..
dealer service with cam belt change and water pump will probably set you back £550ish at a dealer.

service at about £220 and a cambelt change/water pump around £350+. (if they price cambelt and water pump as differnt jobs it will be even more. many do water pump when they do the cambelt as 80% of the labour for the water pump is already done changing the belt).

Independants you may get it all in the £320ish. including service if search around.

Check disks. are they worn.
brembo pads, are not cheap so check for life. bear in mind these start about half the thickness of 'normal' pads...

check for even tyre wear.

check all electrics works.
start car. - put on air con/climate control so that the temp is set to low and the air-con cnow symbol is on. then check that the radiator fans are on but at a slow speed. DO NOT STICK YOUR FINGERS IN THERE. it canbe hard to them rotating. (if its below 5 degrees you cant put airocon on).
This check is to see that the fans operate correctly as some can have a faultys slow speed.

are carpets wet in all footwells? - common problem is leaking door seals. easy fix at about £25 for all doors if you are ok at diy etc. but will take a few hours.

coolant temp, should be at 90 degrees and hardly budge from this.

Ok i will write down a check list.
Will see if i can get the service as part of the deal, or get them to knock a lot of money off their price

how do i check coil pack?

Am i right in thinking when i turn the engine off i must listen for a secondary pump to continue running to cool the turbo?

youll know if a coil is going, will run lumpy nad misfire.

its worth taking a handheld diagnostic machine to plug into the ecu to check for any stored fault codes also.

theres a full list of codes and what they mean in the vag-com section on here.

coils are a vag thing that break, cheap fix though and generally thats the only engine fault they have

I don't have one of the hand held machines that you talk of. But if i can get a service out the dealer the that would be sorted in service surley?

they wont probably check diagnostics on a service mate.

the diagnostic fault code finders cost £20-30 and are an invaluable tool for a vag car.

also check the boot for leaks on the last pic there is white mark on the boot carpet witch could indicate water getting into the boot

where abouts are you from? i've got one for sale & i'll be brutally honest - it has a terrible flat spot at 3000RPM which i've been finding out about on here - got a few things to try now to put it right, spent a fortune so far but going off what i've read it's likely to be a split on a hose which i've not looked for yet or the throttle body which needs cleaning - i bought the stuff to do this yesterday but it looks like it's gonna pee down today! this fault is somethging i'll be putting right before it goes anywhere... Other than that there's absolutely nothing wrong with him - he's just excess to requirements as i have 2 LCR's & an STI!

not sure if i'll get shouted at for writing this here but not sussed out how to PM yet!

if you're interested gimme a shout & i'll send you a link :)
