Advise following pot hole damage

Am I being paranoid.....

Beginning of December, I had a small accident with a pothole, damaged a front tyre, and a rear wheel.... but having had the tyre replaced, and the car checked out, all seemed OK....

Last week, Wednesday, I took the old dear shopping, as we go out of the village, for about 4 miles it is up a slight incline, so I suppose you are under load all the way... the car is all over the place! it is just like a flat tyre.. so I stopped and checked them, all ok... once on level ground, it seemed ok, as it did all the way back home, no problems... which is more downhill I suppose...

So, I put it down to black ice on the road....

Used the same road on Christmas/Boxing Day, then again yesterday, no problems at all... so, I still put this down to black ice on the road...

Today, I decide to go to the gym first thing, it is frosty, and around freezing according to the car outside temp gauge, road "looked" to be ok, but soon as I was out of the village the car is all over the place again, I had to fight to keep it in a straight line

I decided to go back home..... just in time to see a gritter heading the other way...

Now, since I had this incident with the pothole, I am very paranoid, even though I have had the car checked out twice, and the car drove alright since and over the holiday between the two "all over the place" incidents...

Am I being paranoid? could it be black ice on the road? could it be that I have 3 Continental tyres and 1 Mitchellin? (had to have the odd tyre as an emergancy repair)

I am very paranoid about driving the car now, I hate it! I belive that it must be down to black ice, as it did not do it for three days over the holiday, but I have it in the back of my mind it is an issue after the pot hole...

A four wheel alignment will show if anything is 'out' if you havent had one done already, if there is something amiss you can then have it adjusted or maybe a damaged part replaced, i would also sue the idiot council that let the road get that bad in the first place you pay enough council tax !!

something could be out, had a cavalier gsi years ago and, although it was never great in the snow/ice, first winter i owned the car it was truly terrible, front snaking everywhere etc etc. took it for full alignment test and the front was badly out. once sorted it was 'better' although due to power/tyres it was never great.

suppose all you can do is take it for full alignment test, at the very least make sure the two fronts are the same make of tyre (i.e. if you must have an odd one put it on back i would have thought?) depending on how hard you hit the pothole i'm assuming other aspects of the car have been checked?

The four wheel alignment has already been done, twice:) just to make sure... this found nothing wrong, apart from the tracking was out a little, but this was put right..

It does have odd tyres on the front now, which I do not like, but as nobody here kept Continental tyres on the shelf, I had to have a Mitchelin just to keep the car on the road..

May get this put on the back and see if it is better....

I think it was just black ice on the road, and me being way too paranoid... just been out along the same road, and it seemed to be fine...

I do have a claim in at the council.... see what happens with them now:D

well due to the councils not gritting the roads, it's cost me 3 tyres and 3 alloy wheels on saturday. There is a distinct lack of gritters on the roads atm. Which this severe weather this is totally unacceptable. Councils are neglecting roads big time and it's not localised either, it seems to be nationwide.

Ye here near Scunthorpe its the same.Several mornings and evenings there was bad icy roads with no gritters in sight. They defo penny pinching prob due to bein virtually spent up with their budget.
Stu i reckon u are bein a little paranoid as I'm certain if it was something worse than the icy roads it would happen all the time not just on the odd journey. Also tyre choice should not make a great difference. Not as if some are cross ply and others radial nowadays.
