Hi

After a Mk2 Leon Cupra, found an ex demo at a local dealer near me for
£ 16,200, but was sold yesterday. A lot of the other ex demonstrators’ seem to be a lot higher so not sure why that one was so cheap.

Has anybody else picked up an ex demo and at what price, I just refuse to buy a brand new car and after seeing one dealer selling an ex demo off cheap was wondering if any others may start to follow suit especially with a new reg out next month.

Thanks

Nick

Hertfordshire - Nearest dealers is Coupers in St Albans, but a few around that are not to far away.

i bought my 4 month old inferi black cupra, 4000 miles (manager used it to and from work) no extras for just undr £17,000. The basic, no option ones are cheaper and i found the red ones to be cheaper too.

Ok, thnaks for the info, just a question of findinga dealer willing to do an offer, must say i prefer the darker colurs to the Red, but red seems to be a popular demo colour.

hi rally555ron

i would strongly advice not to go to coupers @ st albans ,i got my 07 cupra from them and have had such poor service from them ive not enough time to detail a list ............................................ but on serious note please look elsewhere,i hear the SEAT dealer in letchworth is pretty good !!!!!

I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT FROM THEM IF I KNEW THEN ,WHAT I KNOW NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice, i have read a lot of posts about Coupers and the majority are not exactly singing their praises - put it that way.

Anyway I have offered them a very low price for their demonstrater and they are not budging so their loss and sounds like a good thing anyway.

Most of the other dealers around me still seem to be wanting a lot of money for their demonstraters so will see what happens, need to flog the misses car first anyway.

I found Coupers to be ok but maybe I was just lucky. Bought my LCR from them. T

hey do seem to sell more of the performance versions than the other dealers so if you are looking in Herts your choice might be limited.

I eventually dealer with Cheshunt Motor Company (for my MK2 Leon FR) and found them quite condescending toward me and knowledge limited, so I guess its all down to personal experience and maybe a bit of bad timing.

If you go with Coupers, or anyone for that matter, make sure you give the car a good look over and get the right price, you can always take it to another dealer or vAG specialist to get it serviced.

Excuse my typing, some it was a bit of a chore, the price you pay for not reading it through before you click send

Thanks for the info, is a few garages around me that are not to far away like Chesnut, Letchworth or New Southgate so a few options for servicing anyway.

Was wondering if a few dealers maybe looking to offload their demos when the new plate comes out.

Not sure, but I know that there are rules as to how long a dealer has to keep a demo vehicle for. There is a minimum amount of time before a demio vehicle can be sold on.

I have done some work in the car industry so knew this anyway, but when my girlfriend aked the dealer could we buy the one in the showroom, his reply was "we have to keep this until August as a demo".

Also SEAT dealers are limited to a set allocation of Cupras per year for themselves (apparently).

The new model year might influence them to sell on the old spec as it doesn't look good showing somebody a car different to the one they will get (even if it is only a new grill surround).

yeah i think its 'officially' 3 months that the dealers have to keep a demo model for before they can sell it on.

i was also told through general chit chat that each Seat dealer has a set allocation of Cupra's for the year. not quite sure how that translates to the discounts that we have been seeing though if they are in limited supply.

At least one dealer told me they get 4 a year.

It does seem that people are managing to pick them up quite quickly.

I found that when I first went in or phoned up, it was a case of they are so rare build to order only 12 to 16 weeks. But by time they found out I was serious it was a case of, we have one in either the spec you want or similar coming in in a few weeks. Which is how I managed to get mine in 6 weeks.

If they were as rare as the dealers make out, I'm sure they would be asking almost RRP for an ex-demo. VW for example are after nearly RRP for a year or two year old Golf GTi.

When i went into Coupers they said they were currently allocated 4 a year, so they have one of those as a demo car in Red and had a new black one in the showroom, with a few things like bluetooth, roof bars etc on.

I did not know they were in constraint but was then a bit shocked that they did not seem to have sold many if they still had the black one around as its not a bad colour.

When i spoke with Perrys who had the ex demo car for £ 16,195 they said they had been allocated 10 cars so over double the allocation of Coupers. However there seems to be a few cars in the dealerships, so for a car in short supply there seems to be plenty around.

Other option could be to get a focus ST, plenty of those around except the Misses does not like them and she will be driving the car the majoirty of the time.

hi rally555ron

dont touch that inferi black one they have in the show room, its been in the bodyshop already,i know cus they tried to swap a front wing with my one ,and had only spoke to bodyshop manager earlier that day too............???? coupers as adviced earlier are not a very honest ,customer friendly dealership.

seems like a witch hunt i know.........just dont want others to have a very bad experience.

AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE !!!!!

I wonder if dealers are trying to make out they are rarer than they are.

At the end of May there seemed to be a shortage when I ordered mine, which would be understandable due to change of model year. But it seems people are picking them up quickly now from stock.

Also I suspect that mine wasn't the one originally allocated to me as it was supposed to be delayed by 3 weeks but I took delivery just over a week after the original date, as if they had found a stock somewhere. Maybe there was a big production run of Cupra's recently.

I drove the Focus ST. Nice car, sounds better than the Cupra and has Recaro seats. Downside that put me off is heavy fuel consumption and heavy depreciation. A VW dealer told me (whilst trying to sell me a GTi) that they just took a Focus ST in part ex against a TDi Golf and it had lost £6000 in 4 months !!!

I know somebody who bought an ST recenetly and good discounts can be had.

Hmm even more great news about Coupers there then !!! - So whats the thought on the black one, was it in a crash then.

If I did get a Focus ST it would not be brand new and the same reason why i do not want a brand new Cupra - deprecation, i know you never make money on a car, but if one dealer has an ex demo for £ 16,195 then there are savings to be had and i just don't want to loose say £ 3000 - 4000 in the first day so would be more than happy with a 6 month old car for example. It iss always an issue though with a new model when there is little available on the 2nd hand market.

hi

believe the car had some damge on it at receipt point at the dealership, well so coupers say anyway, they didnt match my warranty repair very well on my front wing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ongoing batttle with them & seat uk.

your choice about the car,but would just try to source another dealer rather than coupers!!!!!!!!!
the cars are wonderful and a thrill to drive ,would just want the back up to follow with it???

your choice rallyron,

Thanks for the advice and point definately taken on the dealership, plenty of other demos out there so really not to bothered about there particular car.

hi

hate it to sound like witch hunt, but its truly not,ive just had a really rubbish buying experience through coupers.

and would not want others to go through the same ,the black inferi cupra is great and the performance is too ,just try to avoid buying from coupers !!!!!
