My car has the Bluetooth telephone pack but am thinking of getting an aftermarket double din unit. Does anyone know if the factory fitted phone kit will still work?

simple answer is , the bluetooth unit will still work but...................... it will no longer be connected to your head unit so u wont be able to hear or make calls.
it will need an outside amplification to work.

The unknown for me is whether you can control the volume via the steering wheel if you connected a separate speaker directly to the TEL+/- that goes to the OEM HU.

I have just upgraded my headunit to a Pioneer AVIC-F900BT and everything works perfectly. The unit even has multi choice illumination so it matches the other red illumination exactly. Even the steering wheel controls function properly. Well pleased.:)

So that means you don't have the steering wheel phone controls then?

The whole point of this topic is the effect on factory fitted bluetooth!

But will it use the aftermarket head unit to amp?

Do you have the completly std unit? I love the look of the seat media unit but think it is around 1600 - 2000 !!! From the dealers you can find that will sell it! Blue tooth would certainly work with the seat upgrade unit and retain the oem look but the cost is harsh!
