aftermarket headunit please help :(

right then guys before you start lol... iv seen every bloody search thread on here and i still carnt find an answer lol sooo please help me lol

i went to fit my alpine single din head unit in my 2007 leon cupra and the wiring loom that halfords sold me and autolead PC2-75-4 didnt work,

so i took it back and their audio guy said that there was no 12v switched supply on the leon loom at all so i must take one from the fag lighter or simmler

which i understand as i had to do this in my vectra (but vauxhall supply a proper adapter for this) however it seems there are a lot of people on here that have put one in with no problem

and the only time a 12v supply from the fag lighter is needed is when retaining the orginal stereo and fitting a sub for the amps supply

please help so do i need to start chopping up the loom or is there something i can buy to fit it in easy no problem?

the Halfords guy does not know what he is talking about. I've fitted an aftermarket hu with no problems, however I used the connects2 wire loom adaptor. Have you checked your feeds? Where the yellow and red wire line up to the adaptor, are there wires on the other side?

Halfords guy does know what he's saying...
There isn't a switch live on the loom, I had to have one fitted by my local audio place at the cost of £20, it came from the fuse box, trouble is, I had to have my ignition on for the radio.
The Connects2 adaptor is wired up to solve this I believe

oh my gosh lol this is getting confusing now lol i just want a connector to plug into the car loom the quadlock connector and plug that into the two standard ISO blocks from my alpine head unit, lol but the one that autoleads supply doesnt work lol has anyone just plugged their aftermarket stereo and it worked lol

No, as there isnt a switched live.
You need ground, live and switched live. Have a look at the connects2 lead or go to your local audio centre and ask them to run a switched live from the fuse box.

yes this is what the halfords man said, but im sure everyone on here hasnt been and had a switched live taken from another supply fitted into their car have they ? , can anyone post a link of this connects2 connecter lol if this is the case what it the connects2 connecter for, how would that allow you to have the stereo on without the ignition lol im confused

I bought a connects2 adaptor, plugged it in and have live and switched at the radio. I know because it have to switch my live and switch feed around for the vw cars, so I checked I had them the right way round. This is the part I bought CTSST001, do a search on google for it. I can not post links yet.

I just read the description, which I did not do earlier. My aplogies to the Halford man, he is right about there not being a switched live, for once a Halfords man that does know what he is talking about.

Well to an extent, he still told me that there was no such adapter and that a live must be taken from else where in the car when actually i can just by the above (hopefully )

at least with this adaptor, if you upgrade your hu with steering wheel compatiblity, you won't have to buy a new loom, just the plug which is about £5.00.

yeh the head unit is already steering wheel compatable and i already have the Patch lead and the bloody box lol as i thought i was going to have to buy it all seperate doh lol nevermind i just want it working its driving me mad with no stereo lol

the cheaper leads don't contain switched live's it all because of the Canbus system the VAG group cars use. YOu can cheat and run the switched and permenat lives to the same source but then you have to remember to turn the radio off. YOu can run a wire to the fuse box which will then turn the radio off in the same way as standard.

The other option is the canbus loom as per the link above but they are expensive, at the end of the day you either put a little more effort in and run a wire or you stump up the extra £30 although they used to be nearer £90 origially.

HOW MUCH lol i think it they were that much i wouldnt bother but at £40 it will do considering a cheep loom from halfords is £20 and the steering wheel adapter is £20 and a patch lead is £5 minus the cable and time it would take to run a switch live i think £40 is ok IMO

Tom,

just a word of advise, connect all you connection to the hu before connecting the loom to the car. Where I bought mine from, the guy said if I don't do that way, the steering wheel control box will default to blaupunkt. If you connect it first, it will reconize its an Alpine and program itself. once its done that way it will be ok.
