Does anyone have any experience of the clutch plate for the aircon compressor "falling off"? The car was in for a service recently and I asked them to have a quick look at the air con after it stopped working, and I was handed what appears to be the clutch plate from it :-o

My question is can I simply refit the plate and (hopefully) have working air conditioning system again?

I can see where it's supposed to go - the splines and thread look ok, but I don't know what size nut to use (SEAT dealer will only sell me a complete compressor, not any of the bits) or how to hold the shaft when fitting it - I assume its accessed from under the engine bay?

Any advice / procedures much appreciated. Failing that can anyone recommend an air con specialist in the Central Scotland area?

you will need the right tool to hold it and refit it

you can buy the front coupling as an assembly seperate to the compressor

in fact the compressor comes without one it appears :wtf:

mind you times change

personally i would look for a local aircon specialist who may be able to repair the original unit and if it is too far gone for repair would supply a replacement a lot cheaper
 
That's what happened to my 2001 Leon TDi 110. Only solution was a new air con compressor as the seals had dried wrecking the compressor. Found a great place to fix it but I'm afraid that's in London :eek:(
 
That is exactly what happened to me, took my car to the dealer for a service and he gave me back my clutch plate and said my compressor had seized and that is why the plate had come off, quoted £900 for a new compressor. Called a local aircon specialist, what happens is if the gas is low the compressor has to work harder and the spine heats up and the clutch retaining nut comes off hence the clutch plate falls off. Cost me £50 in labour for the guy to put the plate back on and regas my system. Know a good guy in the Birmingham area if you want his details!!! 1 year on and it is still fine and £850 notes still in my pocket!
