Hi there

I have a 2012 seat Leon 2.0 Tdi FR+ 170 bhp

My air con system sticks intermittently, sometimes it works no problem and it is both freezing and hot on the settings but then other times I turn the car on and you can here the system but the fan doesn’t spin , I then tap the fan under the footwell and it comes on no problem .. does anyone have any ideas
Any help would be greatly appreciated

worn fan, damaged fan cabling, maybe switch or resistor issues.

Brushed motors when older have damaged commutators ( the bit that transfers the electricity to the bit that makes it spin) which if sufficiently damaged will not start unless given a little shove (tap).

You can get a more time by cleaning the motor but you will need to remove it and take some bits off. The commutator should look the colour of copper and be smooth and shiny. If it is not, in the words of Capt Jean Luc Picard, make it so.

Cabling can be loose at the plug joints or in the plugs/sockets themselves.
