Just cleaned the air filter out on my car, and noticed a black peice of plastic that slides out. I slid this out and noticed a bit extra behind it. Has anyone trimmed all of this out, and did it make any difference? Theres some pics below to explain it a bit better Its the bit judt in front of the filter, on the intake (didnt take a before and after)

Yep ive taken it out, not really noticed any performance gains although the induction noise is much louder and deeper. I also cut a hole in the passage to the left of the restrictor to let a bit more air in. If you want to go really mad you can also take out the trumpet restrictor which is at the bottom right of the airbox cover...wedge a screwdriver inbetween the trumpet and the airbox and just prise it out gently.

Cheers

Will try it. Did it with my corsa, where i cut all the fins out of the airbox and drilled it with a panel filter in. Although it would be pointless drilling this as it sits on top of the engine
