Hello
My 2010 Ibiza 2.0 TDI FR was involved in a small accident which caused the drivers airbag to go off. It's currently at the garage being repaired.
However, it won't actually turnover on the key anymore since the accident. The solenoid is clicking but there is no main power supply to the starter motor.
My garage has called and said that the starter will actually turn over if he routes a separate power supply to the starter motor. He has checked the positive connections at the batter and there are no separate fuses or anything there.
He suspects there is an 'inertia' switch or similar that gets tripped when the airbags go off that cuts power to various things including starter motor, fuel pump and power steering etc. although he can't find one anywhere on the car.
Question: does anyone know anything about the above? Could it be the airbag ECU sending a code to the main ECU preventing it from supplying power to the starter motor? or is there a switch somewhere that needs resetting? If it is the airbag ECU preventing the car from starting would resetting the code using VAGCOM (after replacing the airbags and seatbelt tensioners) then allow the car to start again or would the airbag ECU need replacing etc.?
Any advice gratefully received!!
