Hi Everyone.... I have searched and searched the forums, and simply cannot find a simple definitive answer to my problem.

Basically, my Ibiza Sport has a standard Alana head unit (not marked up with mp3 in the top corner). It has the usual selection button for CD, Radio, CD6 and RDS... but no direct AUX input.

I have the AUX jack socket near the handbrake.

I naively assumed I could simply plug my MP3 player into this AUX socket (using jack to jack lead), and somehow the Alana would recognise it.... but nothing happens. I have tried pressing the CD6 button, but all that does is flash up "CHANGER" on the display.

I read that FORDY_FR simply used a jack to jack cable, and that is why I am now confused as to why mine won't work. Can someone please explain what should be done with this AUX socket near the handbrake please. Have I got the wrong head unit or something ?

Many thanks.... David

the socket simply uses a jack to jack lead, ill have a look at mine when i get home to which butoon you push to activate it. just on small thing when it shows 'changer' have you tried playing the mp3 player??

just one thought have you tried plugging in the mp3 player, set it playing and just flick through till you find it?

Thanks for your reply st10587.... I must admit that I thought I had pressed play, etc - but I am now going out to to lunch and I will try pressing everything in sight. I'll letyou know.

does yours have steering wheel controls? i find mine using that normally, never actually tried it on the head unit so will have a play at lunch aswell

Yes I do have steering wheel controls..... but I can't find it like that either. I'm beginning to wonder if the guy who had the car before disconnected something. It had a Sony system in it at the time, and I have put back an original Alana unit. The top plug on the back has got a purple, a white, a black wire leading to it (as well as the yellow which does the steering whell controls I think).

The AUX socket at the handbrake has got a purple, a white and TWO blacks. Maybe one of the blacks is missing from the head unit connection ??

Anyway, thanks for trying to help. If you have any more ideas.....

I use a Connects2 USB/line in adapter with out Alana MP3 HU and it's OK. My Fiesta has an aux-in like the newer Ibizas and it only works properly when the MP3 player is powered via the 12v cigarette lighter rather than device battery. I assume it needs a bit of a push with the extra juice!

Forgive me if I am missing something but on the headunit is there not an aux button its just my Fr has this and when i connect ipod i have to select it to aux channel before it will pick it up

i had a play with mine at lunch, mine has a aux button on the head unit. it does sound like it has the earlier head unit in it which didnt have a aux!

Mmmm.... thanks to all who have suggested things here. I guess it just might be that I have the earlier Alana head unit - though it is a 2005 unit. My car is actually a 2006 car. I definitely do not have an AUX button on the head unit.

The round button on top right has got RDS, Radio, CD and CD6 sub-buttons on it.... are you saying that the newer units have AUX instead of the CD6 button ? If so, then that would explain the mystery I guess. Does that mean I simply cannot play mp3 player through it (or can you fool it into thinking a CD6 chager is attached somehow) ?

Yeah newer model has an aux button you select might be worth seeing if you can pick up a newer alana headunit off of ebay or something like that

I have now got an Alana with the AUX button instead of the CD6 one. Does anyone know which pins on the back go the the AUX socket, so I can wire my own one in?

I have a diagram of the pins etc. for the CD6 Alana but not the newer one. Anyone got any pics of the back of their Alana so i can see what colour the wires are and what pins they go to?

I've got Elsa but haven't looked on there as I thought it wouldn't be on there, not being an actual Seat part. I have the service manual and circuit diagrams for the Alana tho lol. Just not too many descriptions

if you go into elsa and go to the bottom of the list the diagrams and it lists all the head units, your head unit may not be a seat part however the wiring that connects to it is! ;)

Sweet...I guess I just need to connect up these ones then:

18 - CD changer, left and right channels, earth
19 - CD changer, left channel, CD/L
20 - CD Changer, right channel, CD/R

And they will just be Line-Ins which work when the AUX button is pressed.
