Alhambra Key Fob

Right, before everyone moans that this is just another Flip Key thread, please have a read, and then cast judgement.

Ive just bought a 2002 Alhambra TDi (115)
But, it only came with one Key, Part Number 7m3 959 753, siemens, 433.92mhz.
So, I popped to my local SEAT dealer and asked how much for another Key, they said over £100.
Ok, fair enough I thought, I will see if theres a DIY I could do, before I give in and buy from the dealer.

So here I am, looking for a way to save £s, and get a spare key for my Alhambra, without paying over £100.

If I buy another 'flip key' from EBAY, and get the blade cut, so it matches my locks, then will I be able to programme it to operate my Remote Central Locking?
I am under the impression, that 'My Original Key' goes into the ignition.
Then the EBAY key (with cut blade) goes into the Drivers Door Lock.
A sequence is followed.
and
I end up with a Spare Key, that will operate the Remote Central Locking only.

If that is the case, then Im ready for my next enquiry.

The 'EBAY' key will need to be programmed, so it can start the car.
So, I will need to remove the 'Glass Transponder Chip' and replace with a 'Virgin Transponder Chip'

Now this is the part that gets me......

What is the best way to get the Transponder Chip Programmed?
and
How much roughly?

I dont have the cars S.K.C (Security Key Code).
So, am I right in thinking I will have to visit my SEAT dealer, and pay them, to give me my S.K.C?
Any ideas How much? (If possible)

Once I have this code. I can then take the EBAY Key to a Locksmith, and ask them to programme it for me?

or

Would it be best to get SEAT to programme it for me, when I get my S.K.C?

Any help would be appreciiated, costs etc?
Thankyou

Prices depend on many things mate. Like how much you buy a second hand key for from Ebay, whether it comes with a virgin transponder and a blank blade, how much your local locksmith will charge you for cutting the blade, how much another replacement blade will cost when he buggers it, whether or not you have VCDS to code the new key (if it works ;) ), whether or not you know someone with VAg Tacho to retrieve your SKC and how much they'll charge you for doing it, how much fuel you'll spend driving round to tie all this up so that you can not go to the dealers and pay their very exorbitant prices, and no doubt there'll be other stuff I've missed off but you might get the picture.

Realistically, If you buy a second hand Ebay key for £20, a new blade for £5, a new transponder for let's say £5 cheapest (may be more), then £5 for cutting the blade, then you need to find someone with Vag Tacho and VCDS to code your newly acquired key to your car. How much they'll charge I don't know, but to buy the 2 cables and programs to do it yourself you'll be looking at a minimum of £50 for dodgy software. You'll need a laptop and you'll need to learn how to use said programs to do what you want, and then you might be able to do it yourself. You could take your newly acquired key, blade and transponder to the Seat dealers and ask if they would code it for you, but they might not, and if they do I dunno how much they'd charge. Depends on the day of the week and colour of the sun.

So for prices, I guess minimum £70 if all goes as you plan, and from there anywhere up to  But I'm guessing how much you're going to pay for a key and how much your hypothetical mate will charge you to do it for you.

Or you could go to the dealers and just buy a key ready coded and cut from them.

Or you could go to an auto locksmith (Timpsons for example) and ask them, but again I'm not about to say how much they should be charging you.

Thats the kind of answer I was looking for :)

Thankyou for taking time to answer my Q's.

Just for the record, I dont know anyone with a VAG Tacho. Is there someone on here in South Wales, who would like to make a few quid???

Thanks again mate.

Also, make sure the new key fob you buy has exactly the same part number as your original one. There are no infra red transmitter types on VAG cars, but there are different frequencies for the key fob transmitter, there are different immobilisers in the car which require different remotes to work. If the part number is the same but a different suffix on the end then it may not work. Be very careful of Ebay sellers saying "This key will work with X X X cars" but are not prepared to open it and show you the part number.

I was under the impression that a 434mhz fob will work with an Alhambra.
Even thought the Alhambra uses 433.92mhz.

I read it on here somewhere? ? ?
Or
Is that in relation to the Cupra?
