Alloy Refurb

Hey folks, an NCP car park got the better of one of my alloys. Ended up with scrapes around the outer edge, nothing deep just scraped.

What type of refurb would I be looking to get here? I’ve seen some discussions around diamond cut/ powered coated alloys but not sure what I’d need in my case.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Your alloys are diamond cut; also known as machined or polished. I think the copper colour that’s applied to the diamond cut / machined face is either a tinted lacquer or some form of translucent copper coloured paint.

Although the damage to your wheel is relatively light and restricted to just the rim, in most cases with diamond cut alloys it’s necessary for the wheel to be fully refurbished. A good quality refurbishment back to as new factory condition would probably cost in the region of £120+VAT for an 18” alloy (usually the cost of refurbishment is more for larger wheel sizes). Not all wheel refurb companies undertake diamond cut alloy refurbishment as they may not have the necessary equipment.

Hi, it’s virtually impossible to match the copper once scuffed unfortunately and you may need to refurbish both wheels on the same side. In the end I just replaced the wheel as I couldn’t cope with having slightly miss matched wheels! I have kept the refurbished wheels though (I scuffed two?) which were done to a very high standard and have since bought two more marked examples to make up a full set. I’m intending to have them custom coated in gloss black and desire red. I can confirm that whatever you decide, the damaged wheel will require a full refurb, all colour removed back to bare alloy.
