Alpine CDA-9885R - just fitted

Just fitted my new Alpine CDA-9885R headunit and iPod adaptor.

Did a good bit of research on here for common problems and so was well prepared! This site has come to my rescue loads of times in the last 6 months

Completed the job in around an hour, which I didn't think was too bad considering it was my first time tinkering with ICE!

Have routed the iPod adaptor into the glove box, but would rather have it routed into the ashtray, I removed the ashtray hoping that I would be a gap behind it leading to the HU but there didn't seem to be. Do I need to remove another section of the dash behind the ashtray?

Nice work!

There isn't much access behind the ash tray for feeding cables, so if you really want to go down this route you might need to make your own holes. Also bear in mind that when the ash tray closes there is very little height in there and, I think, a metal clip hangs down that protrudes into the ash tray area. The last thing you want is putting your nice iPod into the ash tray, closing it and hearing the screen snap!

Do you want the iPod on display when you have it plugged in? The Alpine setup you have should mean you don't need to get access to it when plugged in, so I'd be tempted to leave it in the glove box

There's no real reason I wanted the iPod in the ashtray TBH, just thought it would be cool!

Seems too much hassle tho so will stick with the glovebox (almost tore my hands apart feeding the damn cable through...)

Muchos happy with the sound though, the Aura treble had a tendency to bite my eardrums off at high volume, even with the treble at -4!

Alpine goes very loud and still sounds mint. Radio reception is much better too.

Can control the iPod without having to glance away too long from the road now, Alpine have put a lot of thought into the interface - it's wicked. Even the missus likes it.

All-in-all a superb upgrade.

The Alpine iPod control is the best around at the moment. Not least because it's one of the only full-speed iPod controls so there should be little lag in using menus and changing tracks or playlists
