Altea 1.9TDi cut out when moving off

My Altea started no problem this morning. However as I started to move off up the slight hill off my drive the develop dropped and the engine cut out. Restarted and tried again and the same thing happened. On the third attempt I revere it in neutral for about 1530 seconds and it moved away fine.

The car is 5 years old at the end of the month and has 59000 miles on it. Is this likely to be the battery needing replaced or something else?
